DMN Blog: T.O.'s words of the Day... Cowboys brass still loves Roy

He never stops saying it. It's his mantra.

If he goes 13-3 again and loses in the first round of the playoffs again, he'll be fired, IMO.

He had a great regular season. Congrats to him. But he let his team coast in December and it caught up with them when the playoffs started.

His post-season press conference where he talked about making the "Elite 8" made me want to puke.

Dallas hasn't won a playoff game in 12 years or so and Wade has never won a playoff game. Watch this team late last season and you can see why.

It's not about the regular season.

This team had Super Bowl aspirations, from Jerry Jones on down to us fans. That was reasonable.

It's my opinion that Wade just doesn't get it.

Ditto. That "golly gee, moral victory" crap might play in Peoria but not Dallas. It's like looking for a silver lining amidst the rubble and devastation. Spoiled or not, we have slightly higher standards. 13 reg season wins + 13 Pro-Bowlers leads to expectations, like winning one ******* playoff game. You think Bill was satisfied getting to the "elite eight" twice but exiting early? Did he insult the fans by putting on a happy face after those losses?

And what about Terence saying he gets that same look sometimes too? What about Newman saying he wasn't a liability?

that's just sugarcoating so he can keep bashing. keep up. :)

I always wondered why Parcells would keep the media at bay. Now I can see why. I am a big newman fan but no way does he get credit for callin out a player in the media. He said some good things but he also added to the problem. You just don't do that, in any sport. You keep all buisness in the lockerroom.

ya know - i never gave parcells credit for that but in seeing the free-for-all we have now, i prefer the silent treatment from parcells. it gives people less to "read into".

It's a shame he'd be held accountable for the team not winning a playoff game in 12 years, when he'd have only been here for 2, going 26-6 in that span. How ********. Seriously, that's just stupid.

It was a team effort. That's why I mentioned Dallas' history and Wade's history.

The two came together last year and it was more of the same.

What I saw was Wade having a history of making every single team significantly better when he gets there...and what happened to us? We made huge strides forward under his coaching.

If we kick out Wade, who's going to be head coach? The genius Garrett -- whose offense lost the playoff game for us?

I'm sure that's where Jerry will turn. Right or wrong, I guess we'll all see.

Certain coaches get teams to a certain point and they can't get over the hump. Changes are then made.

It happened to Mike D'Antoni and Avery Johnson in recent weeks.

It happened to Mary Schottenheimer last year.

It's a matter of matching the right coach with the right players at the right time. Jon Gruden took Tony Dungy's old team to the top. Then, Tony Dungy took Jim Mora's old team to the top.

Good coaches get moved if they can only take a talented team so far. It's just the way it is.

Super Bowl?? The distance between him and a Super Bowl is like the distance between the Earth and Pluto. Baby steps, people.

In the wake of a devastating loss, we only want to see contrition. No qualifiers, no excuses, no self-serving press conferences, no consolation prizes.

no basketball coach is going to win in dallas as long as mark cuban keeps changing the team around every year. cuban is the poster child for the IGS of today. made his billions with a bunch of weblinks and now everything should come so easy. he's why i started watching the mavericks, now he's why i stopped.

I understand that's the way life is. Stupid things happen all the time.

Let's hand the reins over to the guy who actually DESERVES blame for the playoff loss. Yeah, that's a great idea.

If Crayton wouldn't have stopped on the route, dropped a ball, or if Romo hadn't overthrown TO, we'd have been in the NFCCG.

Awwwwwgggggggghhhhhh!

When Wade is curled up on his death bed, he'll be mumbling "13-3, 13-3 ..."

Congratulations, Coach Phillips.

Now shut up and win in January.

Wasn't Nate Jones, Julius Jones, and Jaques Reeves on a 13-3 team as well?

I just don't understand this sort of mentality. We were 13-3 and the #1 seed in the NFC. Is that not something to be proud of? Is that not a commendable accomplishment? Good god. I understand being upset about not winning it all, but 31 teams don't win it all every single year.

Wade says in one breath that last season doesn't matter, then in the next breath he crams the 13-3 record down your throat when you bring anything of a 'negative tone' to him in question form.

It's annoying.

Wade says we were a top five defense as far as passing?

In what category? He will say the avg yards per pass or the QB completion rate. Then I will say well you were almost at the bottom of the league when it came to 1st downs allowed via the pass. Then Wade will say well we are looking to improve that this season and last season is over with.

The man should start spinning like a top whenever he speaks.

Wade Phillips = Captain Sunshine!

Wade Phillips = Captain Semantics!

Wade Phillips = Captain of a ship that had better reach the Super Bowl or he will surely be walking the plank!

And yet we found replacements for all of them. But not Roy.

If players were solely to blame, then coaches would never get fired. You make it sound like we outplayed the Giants and lost on a fluke. Or that Wade was a blameless onlooker. That's not the game I saw.

Well, let's check back in February 2009.

If you're truly an "extreme idiotic homer," like your handle says you are, then I expect you'll endorse Garrett's promotion if the 2008 season is a repeat of 2007.

Yes, I think we were the better team and outplayed them.

If Garrett's offense is the reason we lose a playoff game in '09, as in '08, no I won't endorse the move at all.

Did anyone here expect Jones and Phillips to say anything bad about Roy, regardless of how they really feel about him?

Of course not.

Darren Woodson reminded us recently how sensitive Roy is.

I fully expect the owner and head coach to try to build him up and boost his confidence. It will happen right up until the point when they pull the plug.

yet if they did - the anti-roy crowd will believe it w/o question.
when they don't - it's all PR.

that's why i hate the one-sided nature this has become. sources/info is for 1 purpose and 1 purpose only - bash roy. anything that doesn't do that is blown off as not realistic or "other reasons".

roy could have "other reasons" for not being at OTAs last week. no one cares.
suddenly when a coach isn't bashing roy, they have "other reasons" and they care.

hating roy has never been about consistancy.
