and Get Back To Work, which is pretty much identical to the stance that Parcells is taking with Jason Taylor ... which TO seemingly has such a problem with. But despite TO's accusations, Parcells has never "called out" Jason Taylor publicly for anything ... it's Jason Taylor who's run for the first microphone he can find at every opportunity. Maybe that's why TO identifies with him so much.

TO has his problems, but so does Parcells.

Parcells is a very good GM and a good coach, but his personality, if you don't get along with him, can be scathing.

Parcells is no saint, and he does use mind games. He may not be as vocal in the media, but he will throw hints via messengers and use it to make a point.

It isn't hard to believe that there are some things that Parcells doesn't get, and TO was just making a point out of it. Jason Taylor's (now that Zach Thomas is gone - noticing a pattern here?) current treatment is very similar to his treatment of Emmitt Smith in Dallas when Parcells was here. The latter has to be the head honcho seemingly no matter what.

it's called putting your stamp on a team

I think Parcells uses it to weed out those not committed to his "strategy", the mentally weak if you may

Parcells is a dinosaur. It was embarrassing the way he handled TO, very immature. All Bill is good at is retiring until the next team hits rock bottom so he can come in be the savior. Then he leaves before he is exposed. Everyone knows the offense was dumbed down while he was in charge.

He didn't suddenly turn into a kinder gentler Tom Coughlin.

They won, and the back biting that occurred with people like Barber and Shockey was absent. That was the difference.
Perhaps you missed all those pre-season news bits on him turning into Mr. Nice Guy.

Everyone's afraid to say something about the "great" Tuna, we all should know by now that TO says what most of us are thinking. It's a message saying, treat a man like a man.

These are adults, not high school and grade school kids.

You mean like owens does?

Funny, watching all the Parcells fanboys/worshippers try to spin their little webs of revisionist history... no, Coughlin didn't change his approach at all..

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...1_nice_guy_tom_coughlin_to_hit_paydirt-1.html

Mara gave Coughlin a mandate that he had to change his approach with his players. Management had long felt Coughlin was too tough on them. It seemed ludicrous that an old-school coach such as Coughlin, after 11 years as an NFL head coach, could find another way to do business.

To his credit, he did.

I asked Michael Strahan if the old Coughlin could have gotten the Giants to the Super Bowl this season. "I don't think so," he said. "The changes made everyone feel a lot more comfortable being here. It made everybody buy into the system. It was more of a human element. Everybody feels like we are family, not just a bunch of players and coaches."

How does that make a difference on game day? "That makes all the difference in the world," Strahan said.

It inspires the players to fight in the fourth quarter and care even more. "I don't think we would have that type of resolve when we were down in a lot of those situations that we do right now," he said.

The change in Coughlin at this point in his coaching career surprised Strahan. "I've never seen anything done like that before," he said.

Coughlin said the changes were all about the team concept. "I think the changes I made have helped enhance the belief in team," he said.
In his way, he acknowledged that the changes helped get the Giants to the Super Bowl. "The record is that we did change and we are here," he said.
New T-shirts arrived in each Giant's locker at practice. Across the front was Coughlin's slogan, "Talk Is Cheap. Play The Game," with the Super Bowl logo. Considering some of the yapping the Giants have done this week, the move was appropriate.

Coughlin showed the players he cared about them this season. "That meant a lot to the players," Justin Tuck said. "It kind of made him look more like a human being than a tyrant."

July 22, 2007 -- In an effort aimed at fostering a better flow of communication between players and head coach and nip any and all sniping in the bud, Tom Coughlin will assemble a Leadership Council that will come to him with grievances and/or suggestions not long after the New York Giants

open training camp in Albany.
"It'll be comprised of different people in different stages, position-wise and number of years of service," Coughlin told The Post. "And hopefully that will be a means of communication between the players and myself."

That's the trouble with the "old school" coaches like Bill Belichick and Tom Coughlin ... they are outdated and can't win in today's NFL.

On the other side of the coin you got Cam Cameran, Herm Edwards, Mike Nolan and Scott Linehan who are really cool "new school" guys who have their finger on the pulse of today's NFL players. That's why their teams win so many games.

:laugh2:

Parcells was good. But just like he said when he first stepped on Valley Ranch, "this whole thing would depend on how fast we can find a starting qb". Had Romo emerged that first year and had 4 years starting for Parcells, I think the Parcells-era in Dallas would have looked drastically different...drastically better. He did the best with what he had and built this teams core/depth in the meanwhile.

That's not completely accurate. I'm not aware that Taylor had said a word when Sparano sat in front of a microphone and told the world that Jason Taylor would not be attending any of the Dolphins' offseason workouts. He was very nonspecific in choosing his words, and the media ran with it, translating what Sparano said to mean "Jason has told us he'll refuse to attend all Dolphin workouts, whether voluntary or mandatory." And Taylor took a public bashing over it. To this day we don't know who drew the line. What I do know is that Taylor is an elite talent who has been known as a great team leader. He was the defensive MVP of the league two seasons ago and NFL man of the year. As is his habit, Parcells treated Taylor like a child, refusing to talk to Taylor or recognize his existence when Taylor did something Parcells didn't care for. IMHO, this whole thing wouldn't have blown up into the issue it has turned out to be if JT had missed voluntary workouts for a more "manly" activity than dancing.

What's interesing is Parcells bent over backwards for LT back in the day. He bent the rules left and right for him and treated him different than everyone else. LT was of course a drug user/abuser and just generally wanted to do things his way.

Now Parcells can't deal with a terrific talent, Jason Taylor, although admittedly not quite as good as LT, because he went on dancing with the stars. Character wise, I would take JT over LT every day of the week. I can't figure out why Parcells panties are in a wad over this.

What man in his 70s isn't out of touch with guys in their 20's?

In other news, the sky is blue and ice cream makes you fat.

I'm guessing Andy Reid and Steve Mariucci are out of touch with players, too.

Personally, I tend to put alot more weight into the words of great team guys like Tony Romo and Terrence Newman, who never cease to speak glowingly of Parcells and the things they learned from him, than I would to TO's words. Nothing against TO, but he doesn't exactly have the best reputation for "making things work" with his coaches. Bill Parcells isn't for everyone. I'm hardly shocked that he was displeased with Taylor's decision to forgo a leadership role in the offseason so that he could pursue a dancing career.

I don't think Taylor is shocked, either. I think Taylor wants off that team, and this whole thing is a ploy to get his wish. He's too old for the rebuilding that team needs, and he knows it. So he's doing what he can to piss off the new management, who made it perfectly clear that they want him on the team. Parcells is polarizing, so he'll take the fall for "treating Taylor badly" (poor baby) - but in the end, I think this is going exactly how Taylor wants it to.

I am so jonesing for a good Quincy vs Hutch thread right about now ! ! !

Guys, we haven't won a playoff game since a good couple years before him, while he was here, or since he has left. Maybe it is just our curse to bear in giving the Cardinals their first playoff win in X years.

It is time to let the Parcells drama go. He kicks his players *** while Wade sits and scratches his own. ... long live the king.

AR sure is... you know... the (as GM) who helped firebomb his own squad by pandering to his overpaid QB and misplaying his hand vs TO. ROTFLMAO.

Mooch was the more clue'd in but just a mediocre HC.

I'm not, but I am very glad he is gone. No one was more giddy than I was when he was hired. It was on my wife's birthday and I honestly felt I got the better present. But I do not like the results and won't pretend that improving on Campo is a grand accomplishment. He basically was just a higher paid Chan Gailey.
