There's a reason why Jerry's a billionare and you're just posting away frantically. All this stature and crap means nothing it needs to be in writing. I'm pretty sure this could of been done with a hand shake. No contract even needed. I guess thats what you wanted Jones to do. Shake hands with Reeves and take the man on his word and honor....those days are over.

Yeah, the wealth = intelligence routine.

If you're good at making money, you're a genius in all areas.

Pffftttt.

Yeah, ol' Jed knew how to find oil.

No, let Reeves have an office and see all your inner-workings, then talk about a contract....

His word. Honor.

You're right, those days are over.

I can guarantee you that Dan would have worked any hours Jerry wanted him too

Then he should have signed the contract if it wasn't a problem.

Don't want to fight with you Bob... we typically agree on most things... But I just can't imagine why, if this was Reeve's dream job, he wouldn't have just signed the damn thing. On the other hand, I can see exactly why Jerry, as an employer, would see red flags and insist the clause stayed in the contract after Dan balked.

Maybe I'm thick skinned or something... but no way would I have been so insulted that I wouldn't have signed that contract. That's just crazy. What was Dan thinking? "Well, I do plan on staying at Valley Ranch all the time... but since the owner of the team wants a guarantee of that... I don't think I can do it."

I do understand what you and stash are saying... and I can see how Dan was a little bothered by it... but for crying out loud! Letting the whole deal go south was what my father would say is being stubborn to a fault.

Like I said, I think Jerry, as an employer, had every right to put that into the contract and it makes Reeves look a little like a spoiled, petulant child that he took his ball and went home. Maybe Reeves hadn't seen other NFL team's put that in the contracts... but then Dan hadn't worked as a consultant for other teams either. More to the point, he hadn't worked for a team that had an owner that had already been burned once by a consultant who didn't show up to work nearly as much as the owner had expected.

I'm just having a hard time looking beyond the fact that Jerry knows and respects Dan, but insists on this wacky clause

I say wacky because Dan, whose been in this business much longer than Jerry has, has never seen it before

I just believe that Dan as the consultant was a Wade brainchild and not Jerry's, I don't think he totally signed on to it

I know. I do understand that too. However, once Dan had issues with the clause.. I don't blame Jerry for it throwing up a red flag to him. Hell, I'd wonder what the problem was too.

True... but he's never (I don't think) been a consultant before either. Particularly, not for a guy who apparently had another consultant take advantage of the fact that Jerry didn't put in a time clause.

That is very possible, considering Jerry usually makes something happen if he really wants it. But you do have to agree that it is pure speculation on that point.

I don't know Bob... it's going to be an interesting off-season, that's for sure. I suppose we'll see what happens and go from there.

As fans... we really don't have much choice.

I never said that wealth = intelligence. I'm saying there's a reason why he's a business man and him not having the clause in the contract isn't a smart business move but use some more pictures to illustrate your point.....

Are you stupid? He's rich for the reason why you are upset. Rich doesn't equal brilliant I never said that so I don't see how you get that.

Then maybe you should read what you yourself type.

What does this sentence even mean?

"He's rich for the reason why you are upset"

You're upset because he put the clause in the contract. That's why he's rich because he protects his business investment and doesn't just throw money at the first thing moving.

Oh.

Gotcha.

Now I understand what you said, even though I don't agree with it.

How about we simply agree to disagree on this subject?

I just don't see how it's a red-flag when it comes to a guy you know and respect

Dan does deserve respect... but he is getting old and he has had heart problems. He might be slowing down or preparing to slow down.

Who knows? Heck, maybe you're right... it's just that my gut response to this whole thing was, "Why the heck wouldn't he sign it."

He might have been. That's why I put (I think) after that statement. Was he?

Well, I think we can all agree that we certainly do that... some do it enough for several people. :)

Let's get over old man Reeves.

Last he was associted with the Cowboys he was disgruntled with Landry's handling of Duane Thomas and other malcontent. Said Landry was coddling Thomas and other outspoken team members.
Even then he did not know how to react to the new breed of athlete: well-paid and outspoken.

Give Reeves respect? Landry did not by letting Reeves walk away in bitterness.

As far as Reeves being a consultant for the texans -- whoopeeeee! Them Texans sure got good in a hurry, didn't they?

Your tears of letting Reeves go are better spent on allowing Gruden and Shanny to sit around while we waste another year with the Clown Wade Phillips.

Get out of dodge, Danny and go do the dirty bird somewhere else where you are wanted.
