DMN Blog: Tashard Choice doesn't want to leave Cowboys

Choice is competent when he is in the game. But special? Not seeing that at this point and probably wont.

How would you know? Have you seen enough of him to make that determination? What percentage of his game have we seen yet?

That may not be a solution if choice thinks he should be "the man". I dont know whats in his mind but he may leave anyway because he gets lured away with a bigger contract.

What is a better solution for us cowboy fans is to accept that choice will either leave or stay because he isnt as good as some people here think he is and he realizes he should be happy as a part time player. We have 3 good back and the one we are talking about is number 3.

Who said he wants "to be the man"? Lured away to a bigger contract how, hes signed through next year?

He made me a believer when he kept Dallas in the game against Pittsburgh in 2008.

He put up big numbers vs three Top 5 Defenses that year.

This seems like a no brainer to me.

Start Felix and Choice.
Close game with alot of Barber.

We have the perfect triple combination and we dont use it correctly.

Touche'

We're treating Barber the same way we treated Julius in 2007. He's starting just so we dont hurt his feelings.

I have seen the same percentage of his games that you have. So i ask you what are you basing your determination on? 1 or 2 games? You actually made my point for me. Thanks.

He is 3rd. Cry all you want it wont change. He is 3rd and is there for a reason.

The difference between you and I is that i would trade my 3rd rb for a stud player that would improve my team and add more to the team than 5 carries a game can. You will sit on choice and whine as he leaves because he will get tired of being 2nd or 3rd best in dallas.

Its pretty simple.

The cowboys will not pay both Felix and Choice starter money. It just wont happen. Yet you are trying to make a case for not trading a guy who you have ranked so high. If he is as valuable as you think he is then he will get taken from us just like Michael Turner did to San Diego. Its pretty easy to figure out. Everyone wants to be the man. Choice isnt going to be happy with limited roles in our offense. And as long as Felix is here thats what choice will have.

Does that clear it up for you? You must live in this dream world where players are not out for money. If choice is a stud he will get paid like one. If Felix is a stud he will get paid like one........ But they wont both be getting it here in Dallas. Only so much money to go around to RB's.

Accept it son.

Be careful with that logic. Many many backups have looked great in fill in roles just to fall short as "the guy".

The reality is we dont know. What we know is he is number 3. And will be again this year.

So if a good offer comes along we need to seriously consider it.

We have him for one more year but yeah eventually somebody might steal him off our roster like Turner and the Dolts.

Son? That's Coakley's Dad foo...:laugh2:

I dont need you and all your wise a** comments: "cry all you want", "accept it son" and blah, blah, blah...Im not crying, simplmy making a point that you are just talking and dont have a point. Hence your comment: "Choice is competent when he is in the game. But special? Not seeing that at this point and probably wont", then saying "if he's a stud and if he wants to start he'll leave to go to another team."
All you keep saying is how he is our 3rd back: that is understood. You also have 2 other backs *1-barber-has not been able to stay healthy in either one of his two seasons as a full time starter and has slowed down and been less aggressive in the tail end of each season & Felix who is a beast no doubt but has to be handled differently than a full time starter as he is not an every down back. Choice is a good back with tremendous upside. So when barber has his one or 2 injuries this season and he cant play everygame what is your suggestion if we trade choice? Play Felix every down? go out and look for a stop gap running back? We have no guarantees that barber will be here this season or after next season as it is obivious that his play has declined but his contract is the reason that he is here for now as evidenced by Jerry saying at the end of the season he wants to see more of choice next year. There is definitely more than one or two games of film to assess from and obiviously you have a hard time and are challenged assessing talent but there is more to the argument than, "Hes the 3rd back."

I'm just talking and dont have a point? Maybe you are just having a hard time accepting the point?

The point has been made time and time again. Let me clarify one more time for you........ A decision will have to be made. If choice is really as good as you think then he will have to be our featured back. He is too young to accept playing part time. So he will either play somewhere else or Barber and Felix will be gone and choice will stay. In this league talent plays and gets paid. The only talented players that play part time are the just drafted guys. And when people realize their talent they either start or leave. I'm sorry for you that you cant accept this fact. If both Felix and Choice are still here in 4 years it is because one of the 2 turned out to not be very good. So if this is the case and you believe choice will want to play and get paid in a year why is it such a bad idea to move him if the right offer is made? We could keep him and watch him walk away in a year. Or we could get something for him.

I cant understand why this pretty simple point is so hard for you to grasp? Do you think Choice will be ok as a lifetime backup that gets to play when our starter gets hurt? Or do you think he is the best back on the team and Jerry, wade and company will wake up and feature him? Felix and Choice will both want to get paid eventually. What do you do? Whats your answer to this situation?

The NFL is not a league of "one starter" anymore, its definitely a 2 back league and definitely 2 backs with different skill sets. I understand the game of football, you dont have to talk to me like Im a little kid with your: "cant understand why this pretty simple point is so hard for you to grasp?", "Let me clarify one more time for you", If jerry wants them both to be here, they will be here, its not a case of career back up, how many teams do you now see using a two back system? Probably more than 50% of the league, the game is more physical and backs in general dont hold up as well.
My answer to this situation is simple: Choice is under contract through next year, take some of barbers carries away and utilize him more for short yardage situations and his "closer" role, get the ball in Choices hands another 5 times a game to assess where he is and see if he truly is the back to pair with jones for the long run then draft a back in the 3rd or 4th round next year for special teams and back up-, its pretty simple actually if you werent so busy trying to be slick and condisending in your replys. The bottom line again is: If both backs prove worthy and Jerry wants them, they will both be here and barber will be gone next year.

Right in the mouth....

I'd really like to see Barber back at a closer instead of a starter as it should be. I see a last year of Barber with the boys since I don't think he will have a long career. (hope I'm wrong for him)

Anyone that does not see the quality of running back that TC is, needs to take the blinders off, ... and that includes the Dallas coaching staff.

He led the ACC in rushing not once, but twice, .. in back to back years.

That means that after leading the ACC in rushing one season, and having every team gear their defensive gameplan to stop him the next, he led the ACC in rushing again.

And every time that Dallas has given him any chance at all he has come through in a big way and proved his talent, which is running north and south, running downhill behind his pads. He is an extremely solid NFL RB. His style reminds me of Emmitt. No, I'm not comparing him to the great one, I'm just saying his running style is a lot like Emmitt's.

If you are not sold on Choice, show me where he did not come through for the Cowboys when given a chance.

If he goes to another team I will be extremely disappointed.

I love the kid but if the coaches especially Wade who had Cromartie for a year (maybe?) feels that Cromartie is a special CB talent then you have to think about the trade seriously.

It is much harder to find a good CB then a good RB. I keep hearing Newman is getting up in age and declining. I love to have another quality CB ready to take Newman spot soon. If you can get a sure thing with Cromartie and do it with your 2nd or 3rd RB , then it's not a bad deal.

The big question is: why is the Chargers wanting to trade their "best" CB for our #2/3 back? is this a straight up trade or they want Choice + draft picks?

Because Cromartie had a down year, was out of place alot of the time last year.

I'll be one very sad Cowboys fan if Choice is the one who winds up out of Dallas.

I love me some Marion Barber, I really do, but if given the Choice of which guy I'd rather keep for the long haul it's without a doubt Choice. Choice is my favorite of the three runningbacks and one of my favorite current Cowboys. I love his work ethic, passion, drive, and ability. I just think the kid can really play the game of football.
