DMN Blog: Troy Aikman would take Eli Manning over Tony Romo

Until Tony can cut out his dumb mistakes and act like he gives a damn when they get pummelled I'm not drinking any more Romo koolaid.

Sure Romo deserves some blame, but I think it is way overboard. It was not Tony Romo that gave up back to back 80+ yard runs against the Ravens. It was our cream puff defense that did.

You want to talk about hype and kool-aid, that should be much more said about our defense. Had our defense actually stepped up instead of showing the NFL they were chokers, we would be in the playoffs. Blame Romo all you want, and yes he deserves some blame. But I think more blame goes to the defense, they made everyone in the NFL think they were real good, but when they had a chance to prove themself to be a great defense, they showed themselves for being the cream puffs they are.

Somebody has the right idea.

I would take Eli too, Romo is a choker right now..

Right now?
That is his legacy.
You are what your record says you are.

Frankly right now I would take Eli too.

Eli didn't have to play in Jason Garrett's Tecmo Bowl offense this year after the success of the Garrett/Sparano offense last season.

Romo VS Manning

Tony Romo is 4-1, straight up, against Eli Manning.

Manning just won the playoff game. That game, certainly, wasn't lost by Romo, either.

Some will say that the one Eli won is "all that matters". I disagree, but that is my opinion.

:lmao2: @ "just won the playoff game".

And yes, the one Eli won is all that matters. There's no opinion to have on it. It's a fact.

But hey, Im sure the 18-1 Pats would agree with you. *thumbs up*

Ask Eli Manning if that beating he took last month mattered. I know Tony Romo hasn't won the Super Bowl. As a fan, I appreciate the 4 times Romo has beat them.

However, you ignore the fact that the Giants are a run first team that rode their defense to a championship. Plaxico Burress' jump balls against Green Bay helped, too.

Eli Manning drove the bus. The Cowboys ask Romo to put the team on his back.

Tony Romo isn't finished.

Honestly I think we are arguing over which of two guys in the second tier of NFL QBs is better. Peyton and Brady, when healthy, are just better than either of these two guys.

That being said I think they are different QBs and would likely not work as well in each others situations.

Right now I'd wager that Eli is a better bet to not screw it up. Don't ask him to go out and win the game for you and hes not likely to lose it for you. Low interceptions but a low YPA.

Romo is a better bet if your needing your QB to win you a game or two extra. More ints/higher int ratio but more TDs/higher td ratio. A higher YPA and a higher completion %, though both slipped some this year.

With our team that is going to make mistakes, how I wish that would change, we need a QB that is going to go out and get us a win or two over the year. The Giants right now who are a more solid football team would likely rather have a QB who is less likely to make a mistake but also less likely to make a play.

In short I'd say both teams have the QB they need for the moment as dictitaed by the needs of their team. If Eli can keep up the incredibly low interception % he had this year going forward then he very well might join his brother up in the really elite QBs. If Romo can cut his interceptions down without modifying his other numbers too much then he will be right there also.

If anyone else other than Aikman said this, this thread would read ENTIRELY different.

maybe, maybe not. few cowboy fans are objective enough to admit a RIVAL teams QB with a Superbowl is outplaying their big money QB. Look at the spin in the Flacco thread.

Still Eli is without question calmer and cooler in the clutch. He plays better tight & late then with a 14 point lead.

Romo otoh makes some 2-minute drills (against bad teams like BUF & DET neither of which we should have been losing or needed comebacks last year) but presses and well is a CHOKE ARTIST as the season really counts.

I never thought Eli would be leader (he looked last just 14 months ago) but the GM & coaches served him well getting rid of distractions & of course Shockey's injury, strahan retiring, etc. I'd guarantee you with better coaching & no TO Romo would progress faster as a QB and give us a better shot at a playoff victory (or two or three) than we have today.

Something has to change. We cannot just wait for Romo to "get it".

Romo has gotten worse every year in terms of completion % and yards per throw. He is averaging a fumble and a pic a game - obviously, many more in crucial games. I still don't see him trying to protect the ball and he is obviously being coddled by enabling coaches - get a real HC and this might change, otherwise, what's the incentive for Mr. "If this was the worst day of my life, I'd consider myself lucky". The anti Lou Gehrig.

Romo's attitude sucks, not sure if you can change that. I lost faith in him at the end of this season, not for his play, but for his obvious lack of desire. Cabo wasn't a fluke IMO.

Yeah, quick everyone. Defend the pro bowl quarterback of your favorite team!

How dare someone have the audacity to defend such a person.

Go back to your Brady Quinn fan site. I'm sure they still have the photos of him holding other guys crotches stickied at the top of the forum (no pun intended).

Pro bowls are overrated. ex. #38.

Quit throwing picks and fumbling in crunch time.

Doesn't mean I wont cheer for him, but him coming up small in December is making my January one of hoping for a player to fall in the draft.

And Brady is a stud. He might win a playoff game before Tony does.
