DMN Blog: Under no circumstances will there be a coaching change

If this ever happens, I hope Stephen is prepared to commit him to the closest asylum immediately.

If Jerry wants to coach, he can go coach the Commanders. They need his expertise.

Wade Phillips' job as coach of the Dallas Cowboys is safe for the remainder of the season, owner Jerry Jones said Thursday.

Jones was confronted with questions about Phillips' job status for the second consecutive week. Last week, he said his coach would finish out the season "without equivocation."

"We've got a chance to get a lot of things done," Jones said Thursday during his weekly radio interview on KRLD-FM. "And we've got a lot of football left to play, and we've got some good people that not only can play it but coach it."

Jones' endorsement of Phillips for the rest of this season comes during Dallas' bye week and follows what could have been one of the Cowboys' worst losses ever -- had they not defeated the winless Kansas City Chiefs in overtime on Sunday.

Since buying the Cowboys in 1989, Jones has never made a coaching change during the season.

Phillips is in the final year of a three-year contract and the Cowboys have an option to bring him back in 2010.

"Two years ago the Giants were seemingly not in disarray, but they were in trouble," Jones said. "It was also absolutely expected that something was going to happen with the coach, [Tom] Coughlin. ... Well, that same year they won the Super Bowl. You've got to be mindful that this is a long, long journey. ... A lot can happen from the beginning to the end."

I wish someone could swoop in and buy the Cowboys and do what Jerry did when he bought the team. Jerry doesn't even realize he has become what he cleaned out all those years ago. Stale and mediocre.

I'll tell you, I miss that 1-15 season like never before. THAT Jerry I had hope in, even at 1-15, I was PROUD of our team, and celebrated that win over the skins like it was a SB.

This Jerry, just seems old to me now. He isn't the same guy who came here hungry for a SB. That quote above, Jerry would have laughed at another owner for saying when he was 20 years younger. Now, he is the one saying it. The difference between the pursuit of excellence and settling for mediocrity is, apparently, 20 years in age.

I'm starting to see the new stadium as his retirement home, rather than a pursuit of excellence.

The Cowboy fanbase would blow a collective o-ring at 1-15. Gnashing and wailing. Clothes-rending. Billboard-buying.

And how can you say a three-and-two team has you seeing retirement homes five games into a season? I'm waiting for the Cowboys to get a fanbase deserving of the new stadium. Wanna bet that takes more than 20 measly years?

All I'm saying man is that I was proud of that 1-15 team. They tried as hard as any team....and were rewarded with a fabulous win over the skins that season. To me, they were still winners. I just KNEW we were going places and that we had a future. I just don't see that right now, or feel that way about this team. Imo, we're just playing out a throw-away year. Imo, you can always look back on a season gone bad and see the seeds sown the first few weeks of the season. So far, I don't see the seeds we are currently sowing growing into anything significant. I would add that I hope I'm wrong, but deep down, I know I'm not. Change is what I craved back when jerry bought the team and change is what I am again craving. I want the return of the man that bought this team and the hunger he had for a SB. I want him to be SO HUNGRY for a SB that NOTHING IS OFF THE TABLE, INCLUDING FIRING A COACH MID-SEASON, WHO DOES NOT INSPIRE OR PREPARE HIS PLAYERS. OUR HOUSE NEEDS TO BE CLEANED. This is the first step back to where we want to be, and until that step is taken, I am very pessimistic.

Just my opinion though

I was thinking and feeling the same thing.

When I saw that we were down 10-0, I started thinking, lose and get rid of this guy already. Enough is enough.

The win was bittersweet. I thought to myself, ok Wade, you got anything or what?

Sadly, you and I were on the same wavelength. As someone else so eloquently put it, Hoov is indeed a dead man walking.

I was actually having that thought as well. Once it looked like we might actually win the game, I figured maybe we'd win so ugly that something would have to change. Definitely wishful thinking on my part.:

Please!

Tell that to the citizens of Arlington, TX, most of them Cowboys fans that are chipping in about $325 Million to a team that hasn't won a Playoff Game in 12 Seasons.

Yeah, Cowboys fans may tend to be whiny, arrogant and posses a huge sense of entitlement, but make no mistake, we are the reason why the Cowboys are America's team and the reason that stadium got built in the first place.

The funny thing is that might actually be an upgrade for the Skins...
