DMN Blog: Under no circumstances will there be a coaching change

Norm Hitzges was going on the other night about how Jerry was going to make himself the head coach sometime this season, because it's something he's always wanted and he's old.

I guess Hitzgas is just choosing to ignore what Jerry has said publicly about a million times now, that he will never be the coach of this team.

I agree. Jerry has been directly asked that question many times before and never once hesitated in saying NO

That's because he'd have to fire himself one day. Thank God he only plays "coach" in pizza commercials, where he can do less damage.

What was Jerry supposed say? Seriously. I'll fire Wade by X date if he doesn't win X games.

Jerry said TO wouldn't be cut at the end of last season. How did that one go?

True and every other owner out there is pretty much the same. Over the years it has been the kiss of death when the owner says he has no intention of firing a coach. :laugh2:

The infamous "vote of confidence." ;)

It has happened many times to many different coachs. It could happen to Wade and yes I'm one who supports Wade and this team and hope they can get it turned around but if not then no matter what Jerry says today it does not ensure anything

Jerry is telling the truth in saying he isnt going to fire Wade, I really believe him.

He doesnt have to fire him though, Wade isnt under contract past this season.

True. I don't think Jerry is firing Wade during the season. I would consider not retaining a coach with a new contract about the same as firing him. I think it all comes down to the play of this team if they can get it together and make a strong run then I think Jerry very well could retain him but if the team falls flat then I think Wade is gone.

Thats true Hostile, but let me ask you this;
what if the cowboys dont make the playoffs, have another year like last year, and jerry jones still sticks with wade. What do you say then Hostile?

Wade must make the playoffs, and at least progress to the NFC Championship game. Otherwise Jerry will probably make the move.

I wonder if he goes with Garret?

Because you have to doubt that a guy like Cowher or Shannahan would come into Dallas being forced to take Garret as OC. And who knows if Garret would take the OC job again.

****. Did he really just bring up th 07 Giants as an example? Oy vey...two different coaching styles and players.

I think most everyone is in agreement that if this team doesn't make the playoffs there will be a change at head coach.

In fact, if the Cowboys were to be eliminated from the race, Jerry would be doing like he did when he hired Parcells ... meeting with a coach in December to get ready to make a change.

I've never believed that Wade was going anywhere before the end of the season anyway. He'll be allowed to leave, without an extention being offered, unless Dallas wins a Superbowl. Winning a Championship is probably the only thing that can save him from being allowed to walk.

The scary thing to me is the idea that what happens if the Cowboys wind up going to the playoffs, win a game or even more spectacular goto and or win the Superbowl. That would really throw a monkey wrench into things because I think one of those scenarios is the only thing that would Keep Wade as the HC for the cowboys. And that is a gut wrenching scenario...we all want the team to reach the next level but at the same time I think most of us realize that Wade needs to go.

Why would Wade NEED to go if he not only guides the team to a Superbowl, but WINS it?

Thats fine Jerry keep him another year, you kind of screwed yourself over after keeping him after last year's joke of a december, (and lets not forget that while philly was absolutely horrendous their were other games that were pretty dang ugly) but you keep him another year, (unless we see a remarkable turnaround, doubtful) but keep him another year and you will have a fan rebellion on your hands.

This is almost certainly Wade's last year, so what's the point of asking?? Your question is irrelevant to the thread...
