DMN Blog: Under no circumstances will there be a coaching change

Only thing he can say at this point. I have no doubt Jerry will not make a change mid-season.

But if Jerry thinks the season is long now just wait if the losses start to pile up and the home town fans turn on him and this team while he sits in his open air luxury box in his brand new stadium and he has a lame duck HC and OC on his hands. He hasn't seen long yet. :(

Why exactly do you think the offensive coordinator of the number one ranked offense in the league would be a "lame duck"...

Really (and I don't mean this remark to be aimed at you personally), all this scapegoating of Jason Garrett is just ASININE... he's doing a fine job with this offense, the only real area of improvement I'd like to see is in the red zone...

I have come around to the opinion that Wade Phillips is not what this team needs in a head coach, though...I think at this point they need a disciplinarian...

Yep. Much better to flush a season down the drain than salvage it in some way.

Name one team that has ever "salvaged their season" by firing their coach midseason...

well i heard hostile through mickey spagnola, fox news and espn that jerry jones isnt going to make a coaching change no matter what for the next 2 to 3 years.

what do you say to that hostile

reports were that jerry jones wants to recoup his money from the new stadium, untill he does that he has no intention of paying for a top head coach next year no matter what; thats what was reported

You're especially whiny right now, joe... give it up, Wade is the head coach for the rest of the season, whether you like it or not... but no matter what Mickey and all the other mediots that you seem to think have all the answers say, if this team is still underperforming at season's end, Wade is gone...

I'd say that anything short of an appearance in the NFC championship game means he's gone... there will be a slew of "name" coaches looking for work (Holmgren, Shanahan, Gruden, Cowher, Schottenheimer, not necessarily in that order), and Jerry will almost certainly bring one of 'em in...

Time for you to sack up, and stop whining about what could have been... I mean, it's REALLY time for that, joe...

that is what i heard from mickey, espn, etc

OK, you keep repeating that, show us ONE quote from any mediot saying that Jerry will not hire another coach for "2 or 3 years"...

I've never seen it, and I'm gettin' a little sick of you repeating that BS over and over again like some demented parrot... so prove that anybody has said such a thing...

I think that if this season is a failure.... Wade MUST go... He has has PLENTY of time IMO

Living up here in western PA, I've heard stories about Ben Roethlisberger who seems to have a pretty bad rap. He's a bonafied ****** from what I hear.

One story I had heard was Ben was heading into a club and a man that worked there (probably a bouncer) asked him to pay a cover charge before entering. Ben said that he would definitely not pay because he helps bring in business just with his presence.

Lots of people have said that Ben won't pay whenever he goes out.

Of course Jerry is going to say this, what owner would publicly say different???

As for Wade, he is dead man walking right now. As for Mickey Spags saying that Jerry is broke so he is not going to make a coaching change, dont believe that crap. Wade's contract is up at the end of the season, so there is no penalty to hiring a new coach. Now if Wade still had like 3 years on his deal, then this argument might have some merit........moot point however.

My best guess is the the HC job is Garrett's to lose. If we finish the year with a top 5 ranked offense, then Garrett is probably given the HC job. I dont agree with this, but that is what I see happenning.

As for the defense, I have no idea who is going to be the DC under Garrett. No way do I see Wade taking a demotion to DC from head coach. Yea, I know Campo did did it, but there were several seasons in between. Campo didnt go from HC one year to DC the next, that is why I just dont see Wade taking a demotion for the very next season.

Not trying to speak for him, but I think the point is in regard to this season.

Firing Phillips midseason does nothing to help this team.

I think most everyone is in agreement that if this team doesn't make the playoffs there will be a change at head coach.

Keeping him with only the mast above water doesn't do a lot either.

The moment Dallas is eliminated from the playoffs either mathematically or by loss of game, Wade should be on his way out.

GM Jerry Jones is free to try to convince people that he has confidence in Wade Phillips all he wants.

The fact that he hasn't offered Wade Phillips a contract extension is all you really need to know.

Also, I don't think fans were being too unreasonable to think there was a chance Wade Phillips would be fired if we loss to the Chiefs.

After the way we played almost the entire game, if we would have lost, I think there was good chance that he may have gotten canned or it would really put the wheels in motion for Jerry Jones to really entertain it.

There definitley will not be a change during the season.

I agree. He can say all he wants after the fact that he was never going to do it, its just lip service.

I tend to think he would have had ALOT of deep thought and discussion about dumping him had we lost.

I was thinking and feeling the same thing.

When I saw that we were down 10-0, I started thinking, lose and get rid of this guy already. Enough is enough.

The win was bittersweet. I thought to myself, ok Wade, you got anything or what?

:signmast: That's going to be a hard thing for some to accept between now and the end of the Cowboys' season.

Norm Hitzges was going on the other night about how Jerry was going to make himself the head coach sometime this season, because it's something he's always wanted and he's old.
If this ever happens, I hope Stephen is prepared to commit him to the closest asylum immediately.

I don't believe it anyway. I don't think he has ever wanted to be the Head Coach.

I think there were rumors he entertained the notion when around the time Campo was the head coach or slightly before he was named coach. I remember a few Peter King interviews where he danced around the issue. I am sure he has thought about it, if even in passing to himself. He did "deny" it, but we all know what a Jerry Jones denial means. Not a lot.

Yeah, I remember fans speculating that Jerry Jones wanted to be Head Coach.

I can't remember what game it was, where Campo didn't seem like he was going to go for it on 4th down and then Jerry Jones came on the sidelines and then we ended up going for it and didn't get it.

Or something like that.

I just know after that, I heard people speculating that Jerry Jones may take over the coaching duties because he was already doing some of it anyway  .

I agree, I don't think Jerry Jones ever wanted to be Head Coach.

I think he just simply wants to get alot of the credit when we have success and he desperately wants to be known as a "Football Guy".

Well, you get what you pay for, right, Jerra?
And you got Wade.
You shall reap what ye shall sow. Or sew.

Thats true Hostile, but let me ask you this;
what if the cowboys dont make the playoffs, have another year like last year, and jerry jones still sticks with wade. What do you say then Hostile?

Wade is gone any way you slice it. He's in that last year of his contract. If we don't make the playoffs, he's out. If we lose in the playoffs, he's out. If we win the SuperBowl, he will ride off into the sunset. The only chance, and I mean small chance, that Wade gets a one year extension is if we lose in the NFC Championship or lose the SuperBowl and he wants to return.
