DMN: Blog: Wade Phillips will grant Adam 'Pacman' Jones' wish

"It may not be both of them on the field," Phillips said. "but hopefully there aren't too many of those -kickoff returns."

the bolded statement is the key to the whole season basically

its far more important an issue than who is actually running back kick offs

Great news.

Both are upgrades over what we had back there last year.

I'm especially anxious to see A. Jones on punt returns. It's only a matter of time before he breaks one. Just getting "fair catch" Crayton off the field is a good start.

LOL...I've used it myself back in my pool shooting days. Helped supplement the old income back in the day :D

Most sane people knew this would happen in the real games. Only a few that were looking for reasons to bash Wade didnt believe it

I think Jones back there was the plan the whole time. Now Pacman I dont think he wanted top use on both return units

Bingo...

Why has Felix been returning kicks in practice all training camp long if the coaches weren't planning on using him?

You can't take press conference comments at face value.

Oh good. Someone finally pulled our coaching staff's head out of their rear, and got them a pair of balls to boot. Watching that conversation between Jerry and Wade the other day on the Hard Knocks program, ugh. Can't run a team scared of getting your playmakers hurt on special teams. Let's get Roy back out there on coverage again for good measure.
I was thinking about that too. Didnt Darren Woodson used to play on the coverage units too since he was so good? Didnt seem to matter that he was a starter.

How about Wade's little discussion with Jerry on HK about how many touches Felix would get during the game including returns? I think that can be taken at face value.

Something changed....maybe GM Jerry put the coaching hat on.

next order of business:

With Roy getting less defensive snaps, I'm really not sure why he's not going to play on the special teams unit...

hallelujah!

what he said!!!!

this is how you win football games, not by being scared.

when we are up 21 then scandrick can return any kickoffs.

I think what changed was Stanback getting hurt. I think Wade wanted to use IS back there as long as he showed he could be good at it. But I also think that if Stanback had faltered, Felix would've replaced him.

I know I said it before, but very few jumped on Parcells as being an idiot or worse for not using Newman on punts despite the fact that he was the best guy on the team at it. Just seems like what's good for the goose should be good for the gander.

Newman is a top corner, a top pick, at a position we had no depth, and we did actually use him situationally. That's alot different than a complementary running back who was drafted in large part due to his effectiveness returning the ball over other talented backs who didn't really have that skill - at a position we're deeper than the ocean at. Not even close to the same situation, in reality.

People were suggesting this was the plan all along. Wade's comments in public and in "private" to jerry Jones suggest otherwise. Something finally changed. Like I said, maybe Head Coach Jerry gave Wade a little kick in the pants - he didn't draft Felix that high for ten touches a game.

I was big time unhappy at Parcells not letting Newman return kicks, but understood it better than not letting Felix return kicks. Newman was/is far and away our best DB, while Felix is looking at ten touches per game on offense. Put that dude back there and let him return kicks. If he isn't any better than Stanback or Austin, then take him out.

I think that the more they saw Felix, the better he looked and the more they planned to use him on offense. And nobody uses their top players on kickoff returns, except in special situations. Think Belichick using Maroney and Welker on KOs in the playoffs, but not until then.

IMO Felix is going to get a lot more than 10 touches a game. It may not happen immediately, but I bet it doesn't take too long, either.

Adrian Peterson returned kicks against Dallas last year. He is lightyears better than Felix will ever be as a running back. If Wade likes his job he will put Felix as a kick returner.

Is AD still doing it full time?

My point was that if Adrian Peterson can return kicks when he was the Vikings offense last year, Felix can get back there and do it.

Wade Phillips said that Adam "Pacman" Jones and Felix Jones would probably be the Cowboys' primary kickoff returners in Sunday's season opener.

"It may not be both of them on the field," Phillips said. "It may be one at a time, but hopefully there aren't too many of those [kickoff returns]."

Isaiah Stanback, who appeared to be seizing the kickoff return role before dislocating his shoulder, is expected to play in Cleveland. However, the plan is to limit Stanback's role to the No. 3 WR.

They better limit his role. The first action he sees, he'll go down with another injury. Then we will really be screwed. Felix will be our third WR.

Isiah Brokeback.

Are you using the crystal or the magic 8 ball?

Light years?
