he was pretty good at it his first couple of seasons...but nobody wants to remember that

he ran stride for stride once with Jimmy Smith 35-40+ yds downfield all by himself, made an acrobatic pick on the play

not sure what happened his last couple of seasons, though he was never anywhere nearly as bad as some of the clowns in here thought

He's always been a pretty good playmaker, even now. Didn't he lead the team in ints last year, even while everyone was saying he sucks. I don't know how many teams have their strong safety lead their team in picks.

I'd rather he stay, but his contract is hard to handle. I was really pulling for him last year to regain his form, but he got hurt.

he made no plays last season and broke his arm trying to put a hit on an eagle. in 2007 he made no plays other than 2 passes thrown right to him as would like to say from Rex Grossman and 80 year old trent Green.

and you think signing a guy with 1 pick in 50+ games is a good idea

The Monday Night Football game against the Commanders.

On one play, Roy sacks Brunell making it third and a mile.

The very next play, Brunell hits Moss deep for a touchdown.

One play - Roy is still a monster. The very next, he's exposed and some would say he never recovered.

Yeah, Zimmer's genius of not putting your franchise CB on the other teams best WR in crunch time...

not necessarily but it would be a better idea than keeping Bambi.

If we release him, what are the chances the Dolpins pick him up and team him with Gibril Wilson?

It saddens me to watch this ..

Then to remember the Roy we saw over the past few years. He lost that fire he had early in his career when he would light people up for even daring to cross the middle of the field. He was never a good cover safety, but he dang sure was a vicious hitter. But over the last few years, he even lost that.

I believe that the Dolphins re-upped with Yeremiah Bell to play SS.

Roy Williams news

6:10 PM Thu, Feb 26, 2009
Calvin Watkins The Cowboys are on the verge of doing something with safety Roy Williams. The team is seeking to trade Williams or cut him in the coming days.

If the Cowboys release Williams they create $2.18 million on the salary cap. Should they keep Williams his cap number for 2009 is $6.62 million.

Williams spoke to JJT this morning and we'll have more on the web in a few hours. Here's a snippet.

"I wanted to be known as the best safety to play in Dallas," Williams said.

"Forget the Pro Bowls. I wanted to win playoff games and play in Super Bowls. If I was to leave without doing that, I'd be unfulfilled like I should have done more. I never envisioned playing for another team. I've never been fired or released from a job."

Jordan Woy, Williams' agent said the safety wants to remain in Dallas, but is preparing for the end.

I am so conflicted by this possibility because I loved me some old Roy but I have to say...

Cutting Roy would open up $1.795 million of cap room, not $2.18 million or $2.5 million.

More than just a little for me. I was hoping they would restructure his deal. These are the kind of players I don't want to leave.
Same here. This stinks, really. I trust Wade's judgment on defensive players, but I hope Roy's love of the game wasn't somehow rejuvenated by sitting out all season and some other team reaps the benefits instead of us.

I wish somebody would pay me millions of dollars for not doing my job.

Bitter sweet.

At one time I felt about Roy Williams how I feel about Ware right now. i could not fathom the idea of him ever leaving Dallas yet alone being traded or cut. He was to me the Dallas Cowboys, the face of the franchise but in the last few years it has become a love hate relationship that seemed to focus more on the hate and dissapointment.

well said, i feel 100% the same way. unfortunately the game has changed in recent years and roy never adjusted. you cant keep a safety in the box all the time and expect to cover the complex passing schemes teams are running these days. (besides the offense red has us running :bang2:)

It's sad to see good character guys like him leave. He's a real good person, and wish the best for him wherever he goes.

I'm sad by the news but you could see the writing on the wall. Roy should probably consider retiring. It'll be hard for a team to pick him up considering we are willing to part ways with him with no apparent replacement. That alone speaks volumes about his decline in play. Like somebody else said, he was never the same after the league banned the horseback tackle. That was his trademark and took away a big chunk of his game. Sorry to see him go.

Why?These are the players we need to leave.Underachieving, overpaid, slow, players that literally get picked on by the offense of opposing teams.Rw is a joke of a safety.Killa is better.Ellis is next I hope.
