Whatever we think about Roy, can we at least stop this nonsense of blaming the 34? That makes zero difference to a safety -- 43 or 34, the coverages are the same.

I think his physical abilities just aren't what they used to be 2-3 years ago.

Yes, but I think most of his problems are mental.

He doesn't hit with the abandon that he used to, because he is afraid to miss.

He doesn't react well in coverage anymore, because he is afraid to get burned.

And all in all he just looks slower on the field than he did when we first got him, and some of that is thinking too much. I think Roy has taken the criticism in the media to heart far too much.

I wouldn't mind horribly if there was a major restructuring and we kept him - sincerely, I like the guy and wish he had turned into what we thought he would be when we drafted him. But the bottom line is there has to be an urgency about finding a long term solution here, and he is not it. We can't let a diminished Roy Williams be a progress stopper for our next safety, who hopefully will not have the issues he apparently does.

I'll go on record right now and say that I think this is a mistake. I think you're cutting the best safety on the team if you do this.

And I'll add one more thought here, the guy was missed on third downs last year. He made a lot of tackles that kept teams from getting first downs, and a lot of those were being coverted this past season.

The coverages may be the same, but I still buy it.

The schemes look differently from Roy's spot. The gaps are going to be different. Where he lines up is different. How things look as they unfold in front of him are going to look different. But yeah, other than that, it's all the same. It just comes at you from a different perspective, and it was clearly something he wasn't comfortable with.

As far as I'm concerned, the debate should be about why he couldn't get comfortable with it. But everyone wanted to pick on the point that it was "all the same". It's not.

Personally, I think Roy is a sensitive guy. I think that's a good thing, and I think it has really helped him in his personal life and charity work. I think he worried when people started blaming him for getting burned. I think he started thinking way too much and stopped using his amazing instincts.

I wouldn't be surprised if he goes somewhere and gets turned loose again. And when it happens, I'll be frustrated that it didn't happen here.

the guy is terrible in pass coverage and wasnt the fierce hitter he once was in recent years.

roy for years was one of my favorite cowboys until his work ethic stopped and his play declined. he wasnt just that his skill set didnt allow him to be more productive he also got lazy and showed up over weight. that showed a lack of dedication and hunger on his part

OLBs in the 4-3 cover better. That's the issue. He has to cover guys that normally get covered by LBs.

And he sucks at it.

Ever since Roy got his heart broken by one of those Destiny's Child chickadoodles, he has been a soft former shell of himself and a weak link in this defense.

I will root for him to get his mojo back if he signs with a team that I don't absolutely despise.

He was great as a rookie, but that was pretty much the end.

Have a good one, Roy. C-ya!
