DMN Blog: Witten believes this Cowboys offense is special

I just think someone who calls delayed handoffs from their won 2 yard line, and consistently goes shotgun at the other team's 2 yard line, doesn't really know what they are doing.

Garrett's done a good job installing his system, but his playcalling just isn't good.

But you do? :laugh2: Garrett offense is producing with the best of them right now teams that have just as much talent on offense as we do so is it safe to say these other OC with league leading offense are not that great either since they have great talent of their own.

I don't know where they rank I know what they are. Dallas is 10 out of 18 in the redzone we started off very well 5 out of 6 in the redzone and then ran into some problems with the staff using the bye week to correct those problems since the the bye Dallas is 3 for 3 in the redzone. And your whole point of this is?
We were 3 and 3, because of 2 PI calls on 3rd and long situations... Our 3rd TD was from a fumble recovery that resulted us in being 2 yards away. Against the Falcons, we were 1-3, with Romo making that miraculous play. What did we correct?2 TDs in the last 9 trips prior to this game, 3 times with no scores... And with all that talent and Jason is having a hard time scoring.

The offense is playing well, but yes, the red zone play has been horrible. It's something that needs to be worked on.

We were 3-3 but the PI call helped? Yeah that only happens to Dallas. Cowboys offense is producing you don't want to credit him I get that, it is hard to actually man up and say the Cowboys offense under Garrett is producing with the best teams out there.

Are these teams middle of the pack on red-zone offense? No, they aren't.

Top 5 yard per game offense in red zone percentage

Team Yard/gm redzone% rank
New Orleans 428.7 66.7% 2nd
Dallas 411.1 52.4% 17th
New England 406.0 46.7% 24th
Indianapolis 403.6 56.% 14th
NY Giants 386.9 40.6% 28th

Um... Yes they are in fact of the top 5 yardage offenses were 3rd best in the red zone and less than 4% behind Indianapolis for 2nd. But don't let that get in the way of whatever compairson you're trying to make

52.4% is 17th in the NFL. They do need to improve in that area. Especially when they're almost 15% worse than the number 2 team.

That is not the question I asked. The Cowboys are number 2 in yards, but where are they in red-zone offense?

And please tell me you read above his answer where he quoted the question you asked that said "Are these teams middle of the pack on red-zone offense? No, they aren't." before saying what you just said.

Don't disagree but his point was that the other top offenses aren't struggling with red zone effeciency so therefore Garrett sucks. Well as you can see, yes all but one of them are. Does that mean we don't have to improve? Not at all. It just means our offense isn't the only shiny turd once it gets in the red zone.

Fair enough

Our ineffectiveness in the red zone is mind boggling considering we have several big receivers with good hands who can out jump, out muscle most of the CBs. We also have one of the best short yardage RB and a big physical line. I don't want to blame JG completely for this but we definitely should be better in the red zone considering the type of players we have.

I'm sure penalties in the red zone don't help.
