We talk about how many corners are in this draft heck all you had to do was watch the third day of the combine and you're watching all these corners move around and saying heck, this guy can play and this guy can play. There's no mystery to this. You might actually be getting better players in this draft than the ones walking out the door and you're a 13-3 team.
Imagine that.

My own take on the secondary is this:

The same players that some are worried about losing now are the same guys that they complained about lack of playmaking and production just prior to 2016. One good season shouldn't change that, but it apparently has for teams around the league. It seems to me that the league saw one good year and not several mediocre to bad years leading up to it.

What that does for me is to give me more confidence in the quality of coaching the team now has in place. It looked to me like the entire secondary got better across the board, from Claiborne, to Carr, to Church, to Jones, to Heath, even to Wilcox, a player most of us wanted gone and never expected to even make the team. And that quality play also extended to Anthony Brown as well. And while I certainly give the player credit, I think good coaching helped him as well. So, I have faith in that same staff to be able to coach any new players coming in, via free agency and the draft.

And a silver lining to having these needs is the fact that those needs completely align with the deepest strengths of this draft, secondary and pass rusher. So the prospect of good coaching and a strong draft has me more optimistic than pessimistic that not only can these players be replaced, but they can be upgraded.

Apparently the Jags, Ravens, and Jets don't agree

The jags got the best corner on the market. And they have all the cap room in the world. The jets are a mess. The contracts are ex cowboys got we're not worth it.

Broaddus: I wish they could've made a deal but I understand where, talking to [Broncos GM John] Elway, those teams weren't going to step up. I saw ... JohnMcClain the highly respected writer from the Houston paper said he didn't think Romo would end up in Houston. So give Elway credit.

What does this mean

I think Rod has a lot to do with our secondary leaving. None signed for that much more than we were paying them. After doing a great job getting Byron and Brown I think Rod has looked at the draft and likes what he sees more than what he had.

good read on Romo but if we were so enamored with him wonder why didnt we take him with one of our 3 7th rounders. We were a little lucky he didnt get a better offer or sign with someone else.

Sure keep milking those 13 wins. Once the season starts, not a single one of them will matter anymore. But that doesn't stop anyone from still thinking about them.

Reminds me a lot of the mindset going into 2008.

Reminds me of the mindset going into 2015. And we all know how that one turned out.

A lot of the writers who cover the Cowboys seem able to get overconfident and arrogant in a hurry and forget the team falling on it's face all too quickly. Nick Eatman sounded particularly nasty when he called all of the departed guys JAG's. The same guy who just weeks before was building them all up to #FINISHTHISFIGHT

Pretty hypocritical.

the best part about that is I think we all noticed it, whoever they promoted to secondary coach or whatever last season worked wonders with the talent he had. Imagine fresh talent out of the draft? Hungry players? Wow

Expecting multiple rookie corners to come in and play at a starting level is foolish.

I don't think that's what you're expecting. I think you're expecting to rebuild and start from scratch. Live and die by the offense......but while you're doing that rebuild the defense and the secondary.
