This is ridiculous. It was a freaking pre-season game and the first one. While Burnett was playing with the first team, he made two very good plays in that game. He forced a punt on a screen on third down. He ate it up. Moreover, he stopped the RB on the goalline. Some people have selective memories, or they don't recall how well Kevin Burnett played last year in his role in the sub-packages. He is fast linebacker, and he does a good job in coverage.
Burnett had a couple of bad plays in pre-season. Well whoop-tee-do. He had four great plays last pre-season against Denver. On one play, he flowed to his right and fought through trash and put a big hit on the running back. Bet you didn't rememeber that did you? The pre-season doesn't mean Jack.
Here is some of Kevin Burnett's work last year. He caught fire at Philadelphia last year and put some nice games together. Oh, what a concept. Dallas played in their dime defense for much of that game. He played more and produced.
Burnett's numbers in key games:
@ Eagles 7 Tackles 6 Solo 1 Assist (tied for 2nd on team)
@ NY G 12-11- 1 (1st on team)
Washing 5-4-1 (tied for 3rd)
Jets 4-3-1
Packers 5-4 (tied for 2nd)
@Wash 4-4
That is four divisional games (three on the road) and the NFC second seed.
For the year, Burnett did this:
53 Tackles 48 solo 5 Assists 1 FF
That was in a part time role. He could get 100 tackles (imo) if you played him all the time.
Burnett had 57 tackles during his first two years. He had 53 in 2007, alone. You have to play him.
You know what, if you don't like him, your going to probably be happy next year. Another team will give him a starting job and the money.
