Cowboys WR Williams said he appreciates Romo, but he still doesn't know his role

Cowboys No. 1 wide receiver Roy Williams said he told quarterback Tony Romo that he appreciates him after his performance in a win over Carolina on Monday night.

"We had some tough times, some tough drives and he could have went into the tank," Williams said. "If he goes into the tank, this whole offense is going into the tank. He stood in there, held his head high, even though we had all the penalties and we were punting every series it felt like. He stayed in there and led this team down the football field and I really appreciate that out of a guy like that."

Williams said it showed a great leadership quality in Romo.

"That's what I think a leader is. I could care less about guys who are rah-rah all day long," Williams said. "To me, it's like shut-up. You're getting on my nerves with all the rah-rah stuff. It's show me on the football field. He doesn't say anything. He doesn't have to say anything. All his stuff is on the football field. He is America's Team's quarterback. Whatever he does, people are going to love it or going to hate it. When we win, they love it. Nobody understands the small things that he did in the game, and that's why I told him I appreciated it."

But Williams said he's still not sure what his role is for the Cowboys.

"I do not know what my role is. I'm just trying to help this team win, whether it's catching the ball, whether it's blocking downfield, whether it's whatever. I'm just trying to win. Whatever the game is calling for at that point and time," Williams said. "My role is to, like I say, is to make plays whether it's in the run or pass game I'm guessing. I'm not like give-me-the-ball-every-play type of guy. I'm a go-with-the-flow guy because I just want to win. I was [mad] after the New York game because I had one catch. But if he would have missed that field goal, I wouldn't have been [mad] because we would have won. That's just the type of guy I am, and I hope you can understand that.

"I'm just a blocker, a catcher and runner and just trying to do all of them in 60 minutes of play. I just run to my spot and catch the ball. That's what I feel my role is right now, blocking down field or catching the ball when it comes my way. I don't get very many opportunities, but when I get the opportunities, I have to make the best of them. That's the way I approach it.

"[The receivers] don't need publicity for anything. We're not big-name guys over here. We're just the Dallas Cowboys. We have the quarterback and we have the running back. We're nothing on the outside. We're just doing our job and that's fine with us. As long as we keep racking up the wins, we're good."

"I do not know what my role is."

Really? After the Bucs game and your 66 yard TD you said that last year you were the left fielder, this year you feel like the shortstop.

Which is it? :flipflop:

what a stupid freaking title...

he's not saying that he doesn't know his role as in "what the hell am I doing here", he's saying he doesn't fit into a certain "role" because his role is to do a little bit of whatever it takes to win.

I have a feeling on Sunday his role will be even less definitive.
Champ is going to love covering Williams.

I like the mentality that I'm hearing from people like RW, Bradie, Ratliff. Just go out there and do whatever's asked, play hard and just play to win.

This is how I took it as well. It's seems like he was asked what he role is in this offense and he basically said "I don't know what my role is... it's to do whatever I'm asked to do." The title is misleading, IMO. Though, I do think Roy could have done with out the subtle dig "I don't get very many opportunities, but when I get the opportunities". That just makes it seem a tad like a poor pitiful me attitude.

Lets wait and see. Roy is one heck of a down field blocker in the running game. Lets see if Champ is one heck of an open field tackler. He'll need to be because that's the kind of offense we seem to be running this year.

Like I said earlier, we might as well stay here and watch the parade in Denver sunday.

You have basically gone from thread to thread declaring nearly every denver player as better and the broncos as the better team.

Its awesome. I hope the media does the same thing.

oh and champ didnt even cover keyshawn all that well in 05 the last time we played, so you know..

Champ is one of the best run support corners in the NFL.

Personally, I'd love to hear les of Roy Williams and see more of him making those endzone high-jump catches. Maybe if he did that his role would be better defined.

LOL.......

Look, I don't know how to say this other then straight out. We know Champ Bailey here. We played against him many times when he was with the Skins. He's not all he's being made out to be here. Champ is going to have issues dealing with RW in the run game and if you don't double cover him, he's going to have issues with him in the passing game as well.
