DMN Cowlishaw Blog: Pressure on Cowboys' Bennett tonight

I don't disagree with anything you have said but I am pretty sure there are times when Witten completely tunes him out or laugh his arse off. I don’t care how much a player likes/respects a coach, it happens.

Also, Witten’s perspective and Bennett’s perspectives are at the moment polar opposites. Witten turned into a pro’s pro while Bennett is still making the transition. Naturally Witten gets less venom from coach Scrappy but the way Coach Garrett is portrayed I betcha most of the offensive players can imitate him and probably have some very interesting takes about him when the cameras or the mics aren’t around.

Talk about leaping. Garret has never been known as a dictator like you are making him out to be. He is known as a calm patient teacher.

Your making him out to be parcells. Parcells would eat this kid alive. Its probably what he needs, someone to beat on him so bad he just wants to make him shut up and get to gameday.

You're ruining this thread, and it doesn't even suck.

I wasn't a fan of the pick, and I agree that Bennett looks really bad on film. It's entirely possible, though, that Bennett acts the way he does out of pride or embarrassment. Parcells would be the first to recognize that not all players have the same makeup and that you can't mold them the same way.

The trick is to find out what motivates them and then push those buttons. We may not like a guy's attitude, and there may be a process of disrespect to other players and coaches he goes through before he becomes a contributor to the team, but the way he reacts to criticism early in his first camp isn't necessarily any indicator of the type of player he can become. I'm sure the league is full of very good players who were irritating as hell coming up through the ranks.

You are missing my point completely but that is ok. I said how he is portrayed on Hard Knocks. The only thing I have witnessed is him following Bennett around yapping and yipping. No where did I say scrappy was a dictator or an old school hard nose coach like the Tuna. I said that when he is incessantly giving out instructions will desensitize players and probably lead to some very funny inside jokes amongst the players.

Further, I interpreted the crux of what you were saying as this, Witten listens to everything Garrett says, he respects him, and owes his success to him. The only thing I disagree with is the fact that Witten listens to everything Garrett says because like I said initially that is a matter of opinion because you have no way of knowing this as a fact.

In addition to that I stated that Garrett is treating both TE is differently. One is the favorite son and the other is the redheaded step child. So naturally their perspectives will be different, but one thing is consistent both praise Garrett for his work, I wonder why?

Fair enough. I agree that hbo could be intentionally showing bennet the way they perceive him to be.

and again Hopefully it changes. The guy has talent and hopefully we will see it this year.

jason witten was playing with a broken jaw at age 21. bennett laughs at his coach behind his back .

felix jones is already one of our more high character guys at age 21. bennett is a flat out ******.

Well, if he wasn't being defiant, insubordinate, and cavalier about things, then HBO wouldn't have the opportunity to portray him as such. It takes two. Witten doesn't come off as an immature jerk because he doesn't give them any reason to. The excuses being made for Bennett, an adult man, are borderline bizarre, but not unexpected.

What do you supposed Browns fan thought of Kellen Winslow II his first camp?

Why are you telling me this? Maybe you should backup in the thread and read what I think.

your basically reposting what I think and already said.

Last night on the local sports here in DFW area. They asked him about that. Bennett said he was smiling, becasue that was taken 1/2 hour before practice was to start. So he was laughing, because the coaches were already on him, before it started.

all taken out of context, but yet everyone takes it and runs.

Can he be defiant, insubordinate, and cavalier and still be a prospect worth spending time developing? Or does every player on the roster have to be a fan favorite in order to merit his place?

Your phrasing made it sound like HBO was intentionally trying to make him look bad. If your point is that HBO is not the villain here, I agree.

Interesting...

Not sure it'll matter, but it is interesting.

Depends. If talent was the sole priority, then TO would still be an Eagle and Shockey would still be a Giant. So yes, you can be exiled for being a jerk, even a talented jerk.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Tonight's episode is an excellent opportunity for Martellus Bennett to do a lot of positive PR for himself. The only thing he'll have to do is not repeat anything negative which he has done thus far.

If he balances out the previous nonsense with common sense examples filmed for this episode, much of what has happened before will be equally rationalized. It's up to him. In fact, it would be better if he's either not showcased or shown very much at all this week. HBO will attempt to sensationalize anything he does negatively anyway. If they're not interested in anything he does, that'll actually work in his favor.

It's simple, Bennett is a player who needs someone on his back at all times. He dosen't seem self-motivated at all. It made me sick to see a coach busting his tail trying to teach this guy and he seems to just ignore it. Football is a grind and you must be mentally sharp. I 'm not going to kill the kid, but his first impression stunk up the joint.

and you buy that? who cares when this occurred? after practice, before practice, during practice. he was a ****. i'm not condemning him as a player, but there's no way around it, at this point he's a royal ******. i hope he matures, but i'm not holding my breath for it.

Well, I'm not going to go too far out on a limb defending the guy, but he does have physical talent and players with bigger attitude problems have been successful in the league.

I'll just hope he eventually develops and that when he does, he plays with the same chip on his shoulder and that what's a knock on him now eventually becomes an asset.
