What if Goff is Gabbert and Lynch is Locker? Or Ponder? Or Weeden? Or Leinart? Or Quinn? Or any of the 30 other QB busts of the past few years.

And what if Dallas' coaching staff is, in fact, as inept as the staffs of the teams that drafted said quarterbacks?

I think it often takes two to tango.

IF Goff's ceiling is lower and the organization wants to get 2 more years out of Romo, why not go with Lynch? Just asking!

Lynch will probably fit more in a west coast dink and dunk type of system. He kind of reminds me of Kapernick with a weaker arm. He won't be a good fit for Dallas because of the level of incompetence this coaching has shown not being able to nurture talent given to him.

So taking Lynch with a high round pick would be a waste in Dallas. We would be better off going after Manzel. At least his a better fit here. Jerry needs another drinking buddy anyways.

That's a good point too. But I think Goff is closer to being ready than Lynch.

I'm no QB talent expert, but I don't see in Goff what I saw in Luck as a college QB.

I wouldn't be opposed to Tunsil. Replace Free with the best tackle in the draft for relatively cheap.

No, I don't either. But Luck was a 'generational' quarterback that only comes along once in a great while.

Although it would be great, I just couldn't do that. It's almost overkill to invest that heavily into one position group, even if it would be a historic group.

For me, it's Goff or nothing at this point. If he's still there, I happily pull the trigger. If he's not, I want no part of Lynch. Not because I don't feel he has the tools to become a good quarterback, but because it is apparent to me that this coaching staff lacks the ability to teach him how to use them.

Without Romo out there, this staff is a dumpster fire of incompetence and I have no faith than any of them have the needed ability to develop a quarterback.

Goff's 'ceiling' might be a bit lower, but his foundation is much stronger and he's closer to being ready now. The less expected from the staff, the better off everyone will be.

What is it that Wade Wilson brings to the QB coach position ??????

Absolutely nothing. It's beyond obvious at this point. He's at the top of my 'must fire' list.

I think Romo probably has learned more by studying others himself. He also, last least to me, maximizes his basketball skills ( pivot moves, good vision, escapability) in his game.

I want Treadwell because (a) this team obviously needs a better compliment to Dez, and (b) I'm worried Dez might be in a bit of a career tailspin.

The Cowboys had a winning record every year in the 70's.

And, yet, they had the #1 or #2 overall pick three times that decade. Two of those picks were Hall of Famers.

They traded with bottom feeders and received their #1 draft picks.

Randy White, Ed Jones, Tony Dorset

Not bad. But then they knew what they were doing which is why they had a total of 20 consecutive winning seasons.

And what if Ramsey is Claiborne and Elliot is Trent Richardson? You can say that about any position. I mean, it's really not even a valid argument to not draft a position.

Jalen Ramsey at 4. Book it.

I like him but he's gonna be out next year if it's a significant knee injury as they said it was.

No way are we waiting for a first round pick in the Romo window.

He's kept these guys employed as long as they've been here.

All of them!

Nice analysis. They were like the Patriots of today in terms of always keeping an eye on impact players

All good points, but I worry that there wouldn't be enough of a pure 'speed' factor between the two.

Agree. Also while accepting a lot of blame for the cowboys L's because he has had to try to "houdini" them to a W in many cases...

Exactly. Too many times criticized for that late interception that "cost us the game" while getting too little credit for having us in that game at all.

That can never be a legitimate criticism again.

In from the ashes arises additional ashes. Unless we trade down it's got to be QB IMO.

With Jerry running this gong show, I highly doubt he's taken a quarterback with the first selection..I'd take Goff myself..but my quess, Jerry will either trade down or take another corner because I don't see Carr or Claiborne back next year or a Defensive tackle, which is also needed desperately...
