Dak's performance was better than I had even dared to imagine it would be -- that's how good it was. Was it also a good sign for the future? Yes, absolutely! The next challenge for most of us as fans should be not to get too carried away with what we saw last night and stay grounded. There's no way we can realistically expect Dak to repeat that level of play each and every time he steps onto the field -- it would be delusional.

He'll be tested by other teams that are infinitely more adept at thwarting QBs than LA in the weeks to come. Let's keep it real and be encouraged about Dak's upside today, while also knowing that tougher games and worse results are eventually sure to follow the warm glow we're basking in right now. No point in getting carried away. At the same time, there's no harm in feeling elated that better times might well be on the horizon.

I wonder how LA fans felt about it, and fisher and the owner, They won the game, but the guy they gave up a lot to pick high,
looked pitiful compared to our 4th round pick, who looked great.

In fact dak looked so good, I was thinking lets just bench romo and make dak the starter !
Even tony at times was looking like he was thinking wow this guy make take my job.

A qb cant play much better than dak did, and he looked comfy doing it.

So now if some teams knock tony out of the game it could be a mistake ??

Anyway just one game, but he did look very good. I was surprised by it.

I did feel sorry for showers having to play with the scrubs, hope at some point he gets
to play with the first team,so we can see how he does then.

But just seeing them both play this one game I dont think they should bring in a vet at all.
I think dak and showers could win games better than any vet they would get.

Showers OL protectiom was poor but he couldn't throw a screen pass to save his life, needs to work on those short passes. At least keep them out of the ground. But overall, liked his play.

I remember when the tuna was discussing the decision to start Bledsoe as a rookie. He recalled Bledsoe's mother pleading with him to not throw her son to the wolves and he replied "but what if he is a wolf?"

I think Dak is wolf ready and Goff and Wentz are cubs that could grow to be fine wolves if their pack don't eat them.

This a great problem to have in my opinion. Romo should be able to play this season plus two more and then it will be Dak's time. Our padawan will be Jedi ready by then.

True, Showers protection was poor -- so poor, in fact, that it was horrible. Hopefully, he'll get to experience some measure of protection from the first team OL next week as an offering of equal opportunity to demonstrate his abilities. I couldn't help but feel really sorry for the guy.

well if you mean the play they thought was a fumble? he threw that at the guys feet on purpose to avoid a sack and the guy was covered/

yes but if cowboys follow same pattern, dak will always get the first team and showers the 2nd half.
Now maybe the last game they let showers play whole game or early, but right now I think he wont get to
play with the starters.

Showers threw ball into dirt on 2 screens and behind FB on outlet pass. His short passes were not accurate.

Good news the QBs we were rumored to be interested in played well......Hackenburg didn't play

Lynch and Cook played well.....Goff and Wentz didn't play well.

Maybe they can evaluate QBs

Prescott looked very very good last night - he was poised, decisive, and kept his eyes down the field. He stood in against pressure, and delivered the ball accurately, and he was very level headed throughout. His back shoulder throws were outstanding, his timing with Cole Beasley was very good, and the throw to Terrance Williams for a touchdown was an outstanding deep throw with touch and accuracy. Really neat to see. It was an encouraging first effort - I am actually looking forward to him having a tough game to see how he deals with adversity at the pro level, and how he bounces back. Admittedly, I wasn't a fan of the pick (hate the offense he played in - I don't think it prepares a QB well at all for the NFL), and I hope that I am completely wrong on his progression. He's a good kid who is easy to root for.

Interesting that the 2 QB's the Cowboys were most interested in, Lynch & Prescott, did look the most NFL ready in their first action.

Cowboys might have a good backup to Romo, that's more than we thought we had yesterday and enough to like about the choice for now.

Seriously, he showed considerable poise, presense, and patience. He seemed to understand hiw the offense worka and where everyone was supposed to be. His arm and his accuracy were impressive.

With that in mind, we all know hiw defensice coordinators love rookie quarterbacks, have very devious ways of tricking them into thinking something is there and then closing it. A veteran safety knows how to toy with them, make them think a guy ia open and, at the last minute, switch.

I love Dak's potential but I think the Cowboys should find a veteran, give him a one year contract and give Dak another year before exposing him to potential starting time. Let's not take a step backwarda on his development and destroy his confidence by tossing him in a situation too quickly.

I'd agree that it's likely they would want to verify what they saw in Dak first before Showers gets his due. Nevertheless, at some point, the team must discover what Showers can do with better blocking to his advantage as well. If Dak continues to get the advantage of the first team OL, until they're sufficiently confident in him, that's fine -- no problem.

Eventually, they'll be forced to answer questions regarding Showers' abilities also, whether it comes next, two preseason games away or in the last one. Anyhow, we could easily have had worse problems to deal with if Dak had failed to impress. Hopefully, it'll all get worked out in time.

And blitzing....Rams wanted to win that game
Not all blitzes are created equally. Yes, they sent a man off the corner that he beat. I would hope at this stage he could recognize a corner blitz. Wait for the three man blitz with a DL dropping into zone coverage with line stunts.

Dak's performance yesterday was the most impressive preseason performance I can remember by a Cowboys rookie QB since Quincy Carter's performance vs Oakland back in 2001. That was the performance that made Jerry decide to start Carter and cut Tony Banks. Dak did get the benefit of playing with some of the starters including Dez, while Showers was stuck playing with scrubs. With Romo starting the next 2 preseason games it will be more of a level playing field between Dak and Showers with both having to play with backups and bubble players.
Romo vs VikIngs?

I'm gonna hate myself for this but I agree with Jerry, let's not put him in the hall of fame yet. Still, very heartening that he played so well.

It is actually the bad game or bad plays that interest me with Dak the most. How a player responds after a negative tells me a lot about the player. With Romo he can go out there throw 2 or 3 ints and yet he will not shy away from making plays. All QB will have the bad game or the bad plays being able to shake it off and refocus and go right back into attack mode in my view is a critical step for all of them.

Yeah, playing the worst team with the most vanilla possible scheme is a game that means nothing is a far, far cry from playing a regular season game with starters and a week of preparation. Dak has a couple of years of work and learning ahead of him.

NFL quarterbacks have to take the stairs - not the elevator.

I agree with you but the 2 passes to Dez on his back shoulder were top notch. Nobody is stopping the one on the sidelines, I don't care what D you are facing. The one in the endzone could have been a bit more outside. You could not ask for more. I am not one who thinks we have something yet, but no matter what, that was as good as anybody could have played. Anhother thing of note was the 2 screen passes he threw while under pressure showed a lot of touch. Showers in the same situation put the ball on the turf with his throws.
