The Cowboys and the agent for Pro Bowl safety Ken Hamlin are working through contract talks today and could reach a deal soon.
Three safeties of note signed big deals this off-season. The Jets retained Kerry Rhodes with a year left on his rookie deal. Oakland signed Gibril Wilson away from the Giants. Madieu Williams left Cincinnati for Minnesota.
Here's a look at the deals the other three signed:
Rhodes - five years, $33.5 million. He had 67 tackles, two sacks, 10 pass deflections and five interceptions in 2007.
Wilson - six years, $39 million. He had 92 tackles, 0 sacks, seven pass deflections and four interceptions in 2007.
Williams - six year, $33.75 million. He had 74 tackles, 0 sacks, seven pass deflections and two interceptions in 2007.
Hamlin - He had 62 tackles, 0 sacks, 15 pass deflections and five interceptions in 2007.
(note - the stats came from nfl.com to keep it relative. According to the coaches' film, Hamlin had 102 tackles last year.)
Hamlin had a highly productive season for the Cowboys and brought a stability to the secondary. He's a must-have and the Cowboys are doing what they can to keep him long-term.
You saw the money those guys got. Where does Hamlin come in?
