Hey man, 4 years of Latin in high school and I still can't speak or read the language very well. I'm just glad I got something out of it. Other than this occasional usage of arcane knowledge, learning how to say "slave girl", "dancing girls" and using the word "cum" were the highlights of my Latin education.

Not that I've ever seen. I know it as the 15th of the month (or the 13th), and I've never before seen the word itself used as a synonym for doom. A quick Google search turns up no uses of the word or phrase in the context you suggest.

Caesar was warned to "beware the Ides of March" (according to Shakespeare), then was murdered on that date, thus the association of that date to doom...
