Columnist Rick Gosselin answered questions in a chat Monday. Here are some highlights.
Question: although we know the Cowboys need to draft a qb, I don't trust this coaching staff to develop him 1 bit! Tell me how Houston is leading the afc south at 7-7 and they have played 5 diff qb's this yr yet Dallas is 4-10 and we have played 4 diff qb's this yr? The coaches on the offensive side of the ball are a joke here. What gives?
Rick Gosselin: Pittsburgh and Houston have both won games with three different starting quarterbacks this season. The Cowboys have put all their chips on Romo and haven't made an effort to bring in a quality young backup. They prefer to go the Kitna, Orton, Weeden, Cassel route. Until this staff develops a young quarterback, I'm going to have my doubts that they can.

No way I would use a top 5 pick on a RB. That's insane. And this crop of QB's isn't elite. Epic fail by Goose on this one
There is only one thing I am confident about with this FO, they will NOT pick a TE in the 1st round. It will be the 2nd round.
Can't wait to see him on the bench.
I would pass on Jones and Hack. If we pass on one in the first, I wouldn't mind seeing a guy like Hogan picked in the 4th-5th round
I have my doubts about this too. Sean Payton is the one who who developed Romo (not to mention what he did for Drew Brees).
lmao they aren't drafting a RB after McFadden and Turbin proved more than serviceable
they need a ball hawking safety that hits like a freight train
This is insane thinking, I agree. A QB I could see if the right one falls to us but RB? Not a chance.
If we trade back, pick up an extra first for the next season as well as a couple more picks for this season...I could see taking the best RB in the draft but not reaching for one in the top 5 when many of the best running backs in the league were not even taken in the first round.
Well, they are part way there. They have 2 freight trains at S. They cover receivers like freight trains, and miss tackles like freight trains.
so, yeah, need a S. They can have one, in Byron Jones, if not kept at CB.
No offense, but that's idiotic by Gosselin. RB with a Top 5 pick? That's the height of stupidity right there.
I like Ezekiel Elliott and would love to see him play for the Cowboys. But not if we have to take him with a top 5 pick.
Absent a standout quarterback (and I'm not convinced Lynch and Goff are), you build the defense or the offensive line. We're set at offensive line. We need more defensive playmakers. You can never have enough of them, and they become particularly more important the deeper into the season you get.
