Historically, resting players on hot teams comes back to bite them.

Good call, Coach.

Couldn't you say we're hot bc:
1. We played a backup qb(foles for hurt)
2. Indy played half assed and got their ***** kicked.
Couldn't you argue :
1. We could be in the same predicament as philly if romo goes down
2. We could get roughed up since we may come out less than fired up. We were in this scenaio I believe In 2007 and I believe we played our starters against Washington and they were meh and they rested everyone mid 3rd quarter anyways bc the game wasn't going well

Holy terrible analogy, Batman.

There's a benefit from practicing that outweighs the risk of practicing. No one in practice is actively trying to physically harm Romo.
I guess you missed the part about him backing up to throw with no one touching him? No surprise there.

Exactly, which is why you do light practice, rest for this game and get up for a game that really matters, a playoff game.
You don't think you can get hurt in a light practice. You've never played sports before?

Also can we stop this shorter week nonsense?

We played a historically short week this year AND Romo deviated from his pain killing shot routine.

Playing Sunday night and then Thursday afternoon is MUCH different than playing Sunday Morning and then Saturday afternoon.

And the results were devastating.
I'm not saying one day less would be crippling , but when you have a QB who's successful routine already is to take one practice day off, one day could be significant.

You can call it nonsense, but I say it has at least some (even if minor) relevance.

I've said all along, if we do play everyone, then play like it means something. But it wouldn't bother me if rested guys either

A guy is running, hitting people, jumping up to knock down QB passes all game long, yet blows out his knee jumping up to celebrate. So earlier in the game, he's jumping up to swat down QB passes all game long but his knees can't handle the same activity celebrating? It's called a freak accident. It happens all the time. You can walk on an uneven sidewalk and take out your ankle.

It's absolutely idiotic to play Romo or any other starter on Sunday.

If the Cards and Seahawks lose we get a bye, if not then we get the loser of the Packers Lions game as the 3 seed. I don't want to hear about them tying because that ain't happening.

It's really that simple Jason.

I cant believe some of the warped logic in this thread. The fact that Romo could get hurt in the playoff game is no reason to play him against the Commanders. One game is practically meaningless the other is a must win. If you think Romo should play against the Commanders, you need a better argument. Talk about the outside chance at the #1 seed; mention the desire to maintain momentum if you must, but the fact that he could get injured in a subsequent must win playoff game is not any kind of logical argument for playing him this weekend.

So if we win or lose it has no bearing on whether we get a 1st rd bye right? So if we sit the starters and Seattle and Arizona lose and we get a 1st rd bye how confident are you in a young team that hadn't played in 2 weeks?

I would think they would need a half of football at least to knock the rust off. Can we afford to use a half of football to get back in the swing of things in a divisional playoff game? I don't think so. I'm behind coach Garrett all the way.

We play the early game, so how would you, the team feel, if we lost and all the other scenarios played out that we could have got HFA.
But if they played the starters and played to win, then all is great. But rested the starters and lost, only to give up HFA. Or even a bye.

Yes. Very much so.

Actually, not it isn't. Romo and our line have been TERRIBLE at reading the Commanders defense. We lost the big 2012 to the Commanders due to heavy pressure from the Commanders. Romo was injured last year against the Commanders due to heavy pressure and our line breaking down. We lost against them earlier in the year due to us having a hard time stopping their blitzes.

Do you really believe it's suddenly going to change now? WE DON'T PLAY WELL AGAINST THE SKINS! We have no clue how to pick up their blitzes, we have proven this time and time again. They gameplan wonderfully for us on defense.

You guys are ridiculous. You rest your key players in a meaningless game, especially when key players are freakin' injured. I don't understand why you guys can't grasp this.

Preseason games? No - bad comparison. Am I saying Romo should play the entire game? No. He should play a few series, then sit.

We shouldn't be "scared" to play him though. That's a bad message to send to our team - and our future opponents.

I agree Pete - I think there is a game plan, much like a pre season game that will have plays that call for a quick release of the ball, lots of safe throws, maybe work on some things in the passing game, just to stay sharp. Obviously, there are no guarantees that nobody gets hurt but I don't think we will empty the playbook.

Then, I think at some point the starters are pulled. I will be very surprised if we play to win the game much into the 4th quarter regardless of the score.

I disagree with the decision to play Romo but I think it is more about team mentality/identity than anything else. There is a football game and they want to go out and win because that is what they love to do.

I better not hear about one of these guys being nicked up during this game or after the game. This game means nothing. We can lose this game and still get a bye. And I don't want to hear this bs about rhythm. We had a bye week and another mini bye and won both of those games and looked as sharp as we've looked all season. The playoffs are the bigger picture not beating Washington. This is such a silly decision to trot these guys out here. I swear if one of our players, key players gets injured and could possibly miss practice time next week or whenever or playoff game is and has to miss the playoff game or isn't close to 100% after this game Garrett will never hear the end of it from me and other fans.

I would give Garrett the benefit of the doubt here,he knows this team and I think even Jerry is OK with this too.

The "logic" on this thread is horrific. I guess I can drive drunk because I could also get in a car wreck driving sober. Odds go up driving drunk though so it is not advisable, just like odds go up playing in a live NFL game vs an opponent, as opposed to a practice.

Refrencing a game in 2012 as a reason that Romo shouldn't play Sunday....I don't even...

There is a reason insurance companies refuse to insure skydiver and give good rates to non smokers

Actually the odds of getting hurt while driving drunk are less than if you aren't drunk. The odds of an accident are higher if your drunk.
