DMN: Jason Garrett explains why Cowboys’ Tony Romo will play vs. Washington

Worst accident I got in my seatbelt almost got me killed. Six of one half dozen of another.

I have a fear of air-bags. Always afraid one is going to pop out while just driving down the road and break my neck or something. I know, I need to seek professional help........

So what's the excuse this year? This was far from a rag tag OL and they still destroyed us when it came to the pass rush.

Face it, Romo and the OL has no idea how to stop the Commanders blitz.

They didn't do so great against game 1 of the Eagles either. 2nd game was much different.

Yes, after about 2 and a half days of rest. We had 8 days to plan against the Commanders the last time we faced them and laid an egg. When was the last time we truly dominated the Commanders?

This is an old school rivalry, the teams hate each other. The last two injuries Romo has had came against the Skins because of how they gameplan against us and because their players play as though it's their Super Bowl.

It's not going to be any different.

You are wrong sir! If we wind up getting the real bye that's when him and witten slip off to cabo, slap their hats on backwards and draw up plays in the sand.....:D

Romo and Witten slip off to Cabo unbeknownst to Garrett, Jerry and the rest of the team and Romo ends up reinjuring his surgically repaired back while he and Witten are playing volleyball on the beach with a group of bikini models who are competing for the title of Miss Mexico.

Well, Ok, I am glad you have it all figured out for us then. Guess I don't need to watch the game.

Unlike a preseason game, we do have something to play for. We win this week, there's a chance (albeit small) we could lock up the #1 seed. That means we won't have to go to Seattle or GB - which are tough places to win at - especially this time of year.

I know our home record was 0.500 this year, but Romo wasn't healthy for the 49er game; he wasn't ready for the Eagle game; he didn't play in the Cardinals game; and he played part of the Skins game.

If there is a chance to keep their edge, remain sharp, and lock up home games until the SB, you do it. Give them the best chance for setting up a long playoff run.

If this team were like the Patriots (a team that was a perennial playoff participant), I'd tend to lean towards your view. These Cowboys haven't earned the right to sit key players - at least not to me.

The bolded is a far, FAR more likely result than a tie.

I see people who have had major body trauma in my line of work. Most of the patients I see didn't have their SB on even though SB use where I live is somewhere over 95%.

Anecdotes about not using SB and prevention of injury while intoxicated are not supported by evidence.

They adjusted to that A gap blitz pretty effectively in the weeks following that first Skins game, actually. We definitely had some recognition problems exposed in that game.

You shouldn't feel the need to watch this game, it should feel like a preseason game. Why Garrett feels the need to make it like the last 3 final regular season games we had is beyond me.

I'm really hoping this is just talk from Garrett, and come game time, we see the starters on the bench.

You don't think you can get hurt in a light practice. You've never played sports before?

So now the personal attacks? Yes LOL I have played sports, football, basketball, HS and college. I understand all that. Sometimes things do happen. Yes, Romo could get hurt in the first playoff game. Yes he could get hurt in the shower. It's about mitigating risk at this point. Weighing playing him in what is essentially a meaningless game to hopefully win a bye so that he can rest. Just seems pointless to me. But it's my point of view, nothing more. Unlike a lot of people taking stands on this issue, I can easily see it from the other point of view. Keeping momentum going. If he hadn't have had major back surgery, followed by more back trauma this year I'd be all for it. Just thinking in this case, it isn't worth it.

That's all. But no point in bringing in the "you've never played sports before" because obviously you don't see things my way. Keep that nonsense out of the equation and have a meaningful debate.

How sharp were they against the Giants with 2 weeks of rest? We were down 21-10 at halftime. Sure, we came back and won, but it's not we looked sharp coming out of the gate. Rest can be a great thing, but this team doesn't have the best of records following bye weeks.

Ok fine, but what happens if we go out win the Commanders game and then miraculously get that first round bye. Then wouldn't that be 2 weeks of rest? Are they somehow going to find a team to play a pickup game with to keep from getting rusty?

If Romo could suit up for the Rams or the Niners this weekend, I'd be all for it.......

What kind of odds you want on the GB-Det game ending in a tie?? I'll take that bet every single time. That's the only way winning means anything. The #2 can be had whether we win or lose, which is why winning and hoping for that tie between GB-Det (who are both playing for something) is as close to moot as you can get.

Landry, Jimmy, Parcells and Belichick all played their starters in the same scenario. If anyone call Garrett an idiot for playing starters, then they are also calling these coaches idiots by proxy.

So be it.....
