The problem with most backup players regardless of sport is that they can adequately replace the starter for a game or two, but the more they're on the field, the more their flaws are exposed.

We might be seeing that with Patrick Watkins.

He was OK against Green Bay, in part, because the Cowboys led much of the game, so the Packers couldn't commit to their running game.

He had a tough game against Washington, and it cost the Cowboys.

He didn't make the proper switch, allowing James Thrash to get wide open, on Washington's first touchdown. And he was the guilty party on the 12 men on the field penalty, which gave Washington a first down and allowed them to clinch the game.

And it's hard to believe the Commanders would've rushed for 161 yards with Roy Williams in the lineup. Watkins, 6-5 and 211 pounds, is better in coverage, but Williams, 6-2, 230, is significantly better against the run.

Its hard for me to blame Watkins for the Commanders running off tackle on us over and over all game. If we are going to play our CBs and Safeties 10and 20 yards down the field someone on the front 7 is going to have to step it up.

Im pretty irritated with the defensive scheme and have been for about 20 games now. We give the same look every down and GIVE up way too many EASy yards on first and second down.

I hope Roy gets healthy soon. No matter his deficiencies he is still one of the best players at his position.

I never did. I thought that was some of the most foolish, don't know crap about football talk ever posted on this forum. I stand by that. I apologize if my saying so hurts anyone's feelings. The apology doesn't change the opinion one iota.

Yet somehow we are 16-4 over those 20 regular season games.

How many points did the offense put up in the those games? We have way too much talent and money invested in the defense for them to be as average as they have been over the last 2 years.

Are you telling me we have a good defense? Sorry but Im not seeing it, we show some flashes of being good but we also show a lot of flashes of being bad. I really dont see much of a difference from the defense we had when Parcells was here.

Wade and Stewart have been crap for the most part,Even though you get a game or two like yestardays Jason G. is the reason why this team is so good.If anyone cant see that they are blind.I totally believe its the scheme. We have playmakers.

Chicago played great defense last night,we could never do what they did.Watch tonoite the Ravens and Stealers two more good D teams. Its the coaches.

was top 10 going into the game yesterday

is that good or bad, who knows

all I know is that we are 16-4 over the last 20 regular season games. Defence can be all bad

those are two fluky plays. granted watkins is not a leader and he's not going to take initiative and show thought, he's playing very well.

his big flaw is his propensity to get injured. that's when dallas really got in trouble, because courtney brown was sent it.

It's all about aggresion, whether it's the way they defend the pass or attack the ball. Those teams are coming after you and very unpredictable in their schemes.

You know the old saying...be careful what you wish for, it just might come true.

There's a spot on this team for Watkins, Davis and Brown as back-up safeties and special teams guys but Roy is the best SS on this team, hands down. I'll be glad when he's back and healthy.

i would rather have roy williams in there than patrick watkins on 1st and 2nd down, then henry and hamlin at safety on 3rd down...no pat watkins...
