DMN JJT Blog: How come Tony Romo no longer talks on Wednesdays?

Clearly understand that. I guess the best advice comes from the movie Bull Durham where Costner tells the pitcher to right down the things he needs to say when talking to the media, God willing we will go out and win this week. I have made some mistakes but really working hard to correct it. Thanks guys see you next Wed. :laugh2:

maybe. but i hate the way the media can hold people "hostage" at times and cry foul when someone doesn't want to talk to them. heaven forbid it means they may actually have to WRITE something for a change. i can't help but think i could smoke most professional writers here in dallas when it comes to this even if i just avoid cliches.

then again, maybe the drama is what sells and that's why they do it. so todays media writers are in essence, prostitutes.

some writers seem to be picking a fight and call foul when that plan is interrupted.

Some of you were celebrating when TO was giving Werder a hard time last year, now all of a sudden not speaking to the media means your mentally soft. Wonder what direction the opinion breeze will blow next week.

it will depend on who it's about.

I get that but a big reason players get paid the big bucks they get is because of these large contracts that are paid for by the networks. Are players willing to give up these large contracts?

no one said romo is going away forever as far as i know. he just needs some time to get these distractions out of his head.

if 6 months from now he's still not talking, then maybe he's taking it too far. but didn't rocket ismail go out of his way to hide from the media?

just wondering if i remember that correctly.

but like i said, i'm not saying romo never speaks again, but i see nothing wrong with him taking a week away from the rukus.

Werder and ESPN had a clear agenda against Owens from the day he signed with Dallas. Owens felt he was being targeted because of his past. I don't see an agenda here with Taylor. If your worried about what someone outside the locker room thinks then you're in trouble. Some people just don't like hearing the truth. The perception of Romo is that he's mentally soft and dosent play well in big games. Until he does something to change that perception, he's going to have to deal with the doubters and skeptics.

I'm one of those who feels he's mentally soft along with the rest of this team. Until proven otherwise that's the label were stuck with.

Can't handle the pressure.
Wants a change up.
Indicating the pulse of the team.
Retreating and hiding.
Figures he will annoy the media as much as they annoy him.

Or maybe he just not care to listen to idiotic writers asking the same question posed 22 different ways.

Maybe all of the above.

Maybe none of the above.

Maybe JJT needs to get a testosterone shot.

Well Romo was talking to the KC media today and as JJT said he talked later in the week last week to the local media so it is not as if Romo is avoiding the media as much as he just altered his routine. As I said I can clearly understand why a player may want time away from the media but I also understand why the media wants access.

This is common NFL procedure for star players.

Romo has been downgraded from star player to JAG, so he doesn't need a specific day to speak to the media anymore.

bots are capable of human emotion, after all

that was very funny, Adam

Week one, Romo spoke to the media on Wednesday.
Week two, Romo spoke to the media on Wednesday.
Week three, Romo spoke to the media on Friday.
Week four, Romo spoke to the media on Thursday.

So, basically, Romo has spoken to the media every week, but since he fouled up Jean-Jacques Taylor's 'meet the press' pda schedule, it's a problem.

That's so sad.

Once upon a time, journalists used to hustle for exclusives. Nowadays, guys like Taylor are content on waiting for player soundbites happening only during their lunch breaks.

Pathetic.

No Tony Romo in locker room

Jean-Jacques Taylor/Columnist E-mail News tips

Since he became a starting quarterback, Tony Romo has spoken to the media every Wednesday from 12-12:15 pm except on rare occassions.

This is common NFL procedure for star players. They pick a day - the same day throughout the season - and that's the day they talk, which means they only have to deal with the local media once a week.

Troy Aikman talked on Mondays. Emmitt Smith on Thursdays. Michael Irvin on Fridays.

Do you notice a trend?

Romo talked on Wednesday the first two games of this season. Then after a raggedy performance against the Giants he didn't talk until Friday.

Last week, he talked on Thursday. Since he didn't talk today, I assume that means he'll start talking on Thursdays.

As a columnist, I write my opinion. Sometimes, I use quotes; other times, I don't. A lot of times I'll just listen to players answer questions to get a vibe from the team.

So it really doesn't affect me or bother me when Romo doesn't talk, but it does make me wonder if he's feeling the pressure. It makes me wonder why he's varying his routine.

The first thing you learn as a beat reporter is that everything happens for a reason. Sometimes, the reason is important and sometimes it's significant.

The point: There's a reason Romo no longer talks on Wednesdays.

As a quarterback, you're the face of the franchise which is why you should talk.

Besides, it's easy to use the media to communicate with teammates as well as opponents. More important, Romo should use the media to talk to the fans.

Did they teach you to proof read when you became a reporter as well?
