I hope the pressure isn't getting to Roy Williams, but when he declares he might not talk to the media this season it makes you wonder.

Now, if he doesn't want to talk to the media because he doesn't want to be bothered answering questions, then he's really no different than Rocket Ismail, Charles Haley or Leon Lett.

Haley talked on game day; the others didn't talk at all.

Frankly, it was no big deal because all you want as a journalist is consistency. There's no law that says a guy has to talk if he doesn't want to, but it also means he has no right to question what you write since he doesn't want to answer your questions.

But if Williams doesn't want to talk because he doesn't like what he's reading. Or he thinks he's being criticized too harshly, then that's a warning sign that shouldn't be ignored.

Everybody can't play in Dallas for the Cowboys just like everybody can't play in New York for the Yankees.


A certain level of scrutiny accompanies every player who dons a Cowboys' uniform. Those who can't handle it have no chance to thrive. They'll drown in a sea of newspaper clippings and sports talk radio commentaries.

I have no idea if Williams falls into that category, but we're about to find out.

There's no doubt Williams is under tremendous pressure to perform after the Cowboys signed him to a five-year, $45 million deal, traded first-round, third-round and sixth-round picks for him and released T.O. to ensure he thrives.

He's coming off an awful season and there's no tangible statistical evidence to suggest he can produce the eye-pooping numbers T.O. did. That doesn't mean he can't, it means he hasn't done it before.

He has to prove it before he gets the benefit of the doubt. If that bothers him, too bad.

I still can't believe he would write that.

That would be the end of a lot of the tabloid writers in Dallas. I'd love to see it myself. If JTT doesn't have a problem with any of this why does he need to write a blog post or article about it?

To be totally honest I think it's BS that the league forces them to talk to the media at all. You shouldn't have to talk to them. If you want to that's great. If you don't want to then you shouldn't have to.

If it were me and I didn't have anything I wanted to talk to the media about I'd simply take the fine and go about my business.

Then were would YOU get your information from ?

Like I've said before I don't think Romo has the mental capacity to deal with the everyday pressures of the Dallas media and fans. Ducking the media isn't doing anything but validate to the critics that he's mentally soft.

What I find interesting, if not ironic, is that posters here want the players to ignore the media, yet you guys can't seem to ignore JJT.

Don't you know that JJT loves reading the animosity of this forum toward him?

Columnists love nothing better than to get reaction from readers. Hate is more valuable than love because it means people are reading you and registering negative emotions based on what you've written.

Keep on posting articles by JJT and offering multiple pages of hate and scorn. You keep him in business and validate his place in the market of ideas.

No. Just a reporter who understands how these things work.

When I wrote columns, I loved nothing better than for people to criticize me and get upset with something I wrote.

You get more responses when people hate what you write compared to when people love what you write.

Not saying you do it on purpose, but it gives you more of a sense of empowerment to share how you really feel if you're not scared of negative reaction.
