Broadcasters belong to a Gentlemen's Club. You never hear one get catty about another's work. Well, make that almost never. CBS' Boomer Esiason thinks he heard Fox's Troy Aikman waving Cowboys pom pons during Sunday's Dallas-Arizona game.
I'll just point out that Esiason once played for the Arizona Cardinals.
Here's what Esiason said on a Boston radio station:
"It was the first time I heard a legitimate bias from one Troy Aikman towards the Dallas Cowboys. You would have thought that the Arizona Cardinals weren't even in the building. I mean I was taken aback by some of the things Troy was saying and I like Troy. I really do. He is a very bright broadcaster but the bias that was coming from him yesterday was actually stunning listening to it and I'm a guy who doesn't really have a bias one way or another. I don't think anyway. And I can listen to announcers do their games and not be upset by it...I couldn't believe some of the things he was saying yesterday. And I'm still wondering why he thinks Tony Romo is great in end-game situations. I don't really know that we have seen that especially in a big spot at all in his career yet."
I have a message into Aikman, hoping to get a response. I remember just last week, Aikman was a guest on Esiason's New York radio show and they debated which quarterback they'd rather have. Esiason picked Eli Manning. Aikman picked Romo. I may be wrong, but I don't remember Aikman singing Romo end-game praises on Fox.
For those who would rather hear it from Esiason's mouth. It's here thanks to the wonderful Awful Announcing website

Just when we thought a rare "Battle of the Network Analysts" was about to break out, Troy Aikman opted not to play. Aikman's not fixin' to fight Boomer Esiason over his claim that Aikman was biased in favor of the Cowboys in Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
The ex-Cowboys quarterback who works for Fox is taking the polite road in responding to the ex-Cardinals quarterback who works for CBS.
Aikman replied to my request for a response via email:
"Well, I'm glad Boomer is watching the NFL on Fox. I take great pride in not showing a bias towards any team that I am broadcasting and I'm confident the teams that I have covered over the last eight seasons would agree that I've been balanced and fair with my coverage. Also, I never much got into critiquing other quarterbacks when I played and I don't get too wrapped up in critiquing broadcasters now."
