I don't think too many teams set out to "tank" a season, it's just how it turns out for one reason or another. While I believe that it is safe to say that this years failure has roots that trace back not only to Jerry and Jason, it also permeates the players themselves.

Something else to chew on. How does this franchise handle this offseason? Do they truly believe that Romo has 4-5 years of tread left? I sure as heck don't. Do you? If they don't bring in a legitimate successor for Romo this offseason things are going to be a lot darker than they are today folks. Guaranteed. What will Jason become? A sure fire head coach or just another forgotten name on a stat sheet? Anybody's guess at the moment as far as I can tell. Food for thought. Anyone know who owns a 41-55 record in his first 6 seasons? Only had one winning record in those six years and yet he still has a job to this day. In closing I would say that this coming offseason is going to be a pivotal year in how this franchise performs moving forward. Do they believe that the 2015 season was merely due to bad luck and an aberration? If so, maintaining the status quo could be more disastrous than what we have had. On the other hand, if they were to actually go out and be proactive this offseason by addressing their failures things could be much brighter in 2016. Interesting days are ahead, that much is certain.

I expect status quo.

2012 will be pointed to by Jerry for another 5 years and we'll look back on It as the good ole days.

We did well last year because we changed our tendencies.. . We caught the league with their pants down last year.

Now teams can just look at all of the information from last year and basically know exactly what we're going to do and when we're going to do it.

What would be bad is if the Cowboys do go 5-1 or 6-0 (which would mean Garrett keeps his job) and they still don't get in the playoffs.

That right there will give fans so much false hope.

Just a comment on the predictable fans.Where you come up with blaming the fans
for the season is missing the point. There have been many factors we all know what they are
but the lame and tired fits over whatever perceived wrong and throwing it at Red or Jerry
is so over simplified its tiresome. We all have our opinions I should get used to this one.

We're not going to tank the season under any circumstances, so these threads don't really matter. But I agree, it's ridiculous to suggest it in the first place. Especially for a guy like Garrett whose program is built around "being the best version of yourself, regardless of circumstances." To turn around and tank would undermine everything he's stood for as a leader. You don't do that just to get a draft pick. You sit tight and make your choices and develop your players because, whether you're picking 5 or 15, it's more important to get a guy who can play and play in your system than it is to get a guy ESPN has rated as the better generic prospect.

If you're a Dallas Cowboys fan, though, and you ever catch yourself saying 'Go Commanders' in a game that has any implications whatsoever for the Cowboys for the season, you really have to check your head. That goes against pretty much every rational definition of 'fan' that I can think of, and it's a sure sign that your priorities are twisted beyond recognition.

:hammer: That goes for any team we are playing.

What's the difference between tanking and losing every game because you can't win? The latter is what is likely to happen, but I feel better knowing that my team tried no matter how dire the circumstances and no matter what draft picks are at stake. I'm funny that way.

There's a huge difference between 'quitting' and 'not being good enough.' I don't have a problem, either, with subbing in guys you think might have something who you didn't want to risk playing earlier when the games had playoff implications. But when they're in the lineup, you ought to be trying to score. Or to stop the other guys from scoring. Losing on purpose to get a higher draft pick is something you only do if you've got a plan for wholesale regime change. And even then, it's pathetic.

Catch you could be right about Jerry, then again he may do the unexpected and fool us all. That's why I believe that this offseason will be pivotal. Will the Jerry that decided to let Ware walk show up? Or, will the Jerry that made the Galloway trade make an appearance. If GM Jerry makes some decisions we may have a chance this offseason. Now, if #1 fan eternal optimist Jerry makes the offseason decisions we could find ourselves in dire straits.

I think after 5 games you don't fool anyone because by that time there is too much film to review. You may start out the season fooling some people but that just doesn't have a lasting effect. It would be interesting to know how many man hours a team spends dissecting tape over the coarse of a year.

I think teams look at last years tape. It wouldn't shock me to hear that they go over several years worth of film when forming a game plan. So, do teams know what we are going to do and when? I would say that through film study that they have a very good idea. There simply aren't too many secrets in the NFL in my estimation. Maybe a good analogy would be comparing football with chess. When two great chess players square off they both know what the other is trying do. Yet in the end only one player will be victorious.

Tanking should be out of the question. I'm not even sure how you could do it anyway with loss of all integrity.
Maybe put anyone with any sort of injury on IR would be about the closest to it. Even then, the mantra to always play hard, never give up, etc suffers a bit if it's obvious you're trying to lose.

That would be from your post. Where you criticize fans who are disappointed in the job that Garrett is (and isn't) doing.

How is it "oversimplified" to criticize everyone involved? It's not like they've done such a great job in that many other areas either. Take a good look at 'the process" and then look at its' actual results. Look at what Garrett has said and then look at what Garrett has done. Anyone taking an objective look can see ample room for criticism.

It's one supported with evidence anyway.

He didn't give us anything last year.

Tony and the OL did. This is still the same garbage offensive scheme that got us to 8-8 three years in a row.

I think you have to define "tank."

I don't think anyone is expecting Garrett's pregame speech to go "Alright boys, remember this is for the draft! Go out there and get yourselves killed! Defense, I want at least 10 missed tackles and a minimum of 5 holding penalties, preferably on 3rd down. Cassel if I don't get at least 3 picks from you, one returned for a TD, we're trading with Houston to get Weeden back! Bailey, you got your blindfold? Good, hope that's enough to make you miss. OK, we can't do this! Let's go!"

That being said, I am all for playing as much youth as possible including at QB (although I don't think much of Moore, lets prove it). Lets take come chances on 4th down, make some more aggressive playcalls. Try some new wrinkles in the playbook. Experiment with personnel and other things we can use for next year. Treat it like a pre-season game on steroids. Everyone will still play hard on the field, they are in it for their jobs. But the point of the game becomes how we use this time for to improve our chances for next year.

I don't see how the lockerroom can turn on Garrett if he is notably keeping vets from getting hurt in meaningless games while also holding open tryouts for making sure we have the best 53 possible for next year. And some players might appreciate a more go for it attitude in general anyway, I'm sure a lot of guys are noticing the FGs down by 20 too. Heck, if some of the young guys develop, we might win more games this way anyway.

Man, I don't understand why this is so controversial, you never tank, you merely let players heal up who are injured (& let them come back when they're 100% healed) and give as many reps as possible to the guys at the end of the roster, test out tweeks to schemes and plays and see if you can come up with some new plays and players you can use going forward.

Hell, I'd love to see Kellen Moore come in and go 5-0 with Chaz Green at right tackle, Lucky Whitehead returning kicks and getting more pass plays with Escobar, Brice Butler, Irving, Nzeocha, Olatoye, Patmon, Rod Smith, Devin Street, Geoff Swaim, Robert Turbin, Damien Wilson getting tons of reps in the process.

The other teams will be playing to win so this is a great opportunity to see if some of these guys can step up and/or improve in games that will be far more meaningful and intense than pre-season but if they don't, you know not to bring them back next year.

Its a win-win in that it puts everyone on notice that everyone's job is being evaluated and you see who shakes out and either end up winning or they lose but get a better draft pick in the process.

I'd wait to test out Kellen Moore and perhaps a few others until they are mathematically eliminated but once that happens, I see no point in not using the remaining games to evaluate what they have for next year and hopefully getting better in the process.

Bingo, no brainer, so it probably won't happen

Dont blame Murray for leaving for the money. You can thank the NFL salary cap.
