DMN: Sherrington: Weeden would be adequate back-up for Romo

I think with Linehan, if Romo went done we'd be able to manage without the stellar QB play. We'd just have to use our RBs a lot more, especially out of the backfield as a pass catcher. And that's something that Linehan likes to incorporate into his offense, at least he did it last year in Detroit. Reggie Bush had 80 targets (54 catches/9.4 avg) last year, and Joique Bell had 68 targets (53 catches/10.3 avg). Meanwhile Murray had 66 Targets (53 catches/6.6 avg) and Joseph Randle had 10 targets (8 catches/7.6 avg).

I'm really excited about what Murray is going to do this year, I bet he has an 80 catch season with 1300 rushing yards. And y'all can quote me on that, because I think I'm being generous with those numbers. :D

If Romo goes done, all Weeden has to do is be able to hit Murray out the backfield. If he can't do that, then we're gonna some problems!

Uh.... No

Norv Turner can make any QB decent, except for Weeden... Let that sink in your head for a moment.

I thought we got him to take the focus of the ineptness of our other Ginger on the team....

2nd Half 52 979 18.8 95 6 36 69.2 15 6

Nearly a thousand of his yards came in the 2nd half of games. It takes nothing away from his talent especially in that offense. In my eyes he was the only threat in that offense. But while he had the best stats of any receiver he's no Calvin Johnson or even Dez Bryant.

Its not even about a silver lining with Weeden. I'm not a fan of him. Never have been. BUT i'm not gonna write him off because he couldn't make a terrible Cleveland offense look competent because i'm not even sure if Romo could.
Hoyer looked good with the same guys(compared to Weeden he was great) and are you seriously bringing up Romo

edit: and since Gordon had over 1600 yards in 14 games that still leaves 700 something in the first half which isn't too shabby

I think that's a bit unfair for a guy who was just drafted 2 years ago. Yeah, I know he's "old" but "old" has nothing to do with NFL experience. He hasn't taken many hits and he doesn't have much football experience. I'd hardly consider him a finished product.

As players age they will peak in physical skills and then eventually start to decline physically. They also gain knowledge and wisdom the more years they are in the league and the more they play. Usually during a short time span players will be near their peak in both physical health and accumulated experience, which puts them in their prime years. Weeden probably has already peaked physically and starting that declline yet he still has a lot to learn in the knowledge department. I don't see that as a good combination.

Hoyer and Campbell may not have made the Browns offense look competent, but they made it look better than Weeden.

Its not too shabby but its not 1000 yards lol. And you're right Hoyer looked good. I believe Hoyer is simply a better quarterback than Weeden is especially last year. And yes I bring up Romo. You can bring up Roethlisberger or Eli or whoever. They'd all struggle in that Browns offense.

That's fine if Weeden has peaked physically. Physically, I think he's fine. Its between the ears is where the problem is. And the only way you can get better between the ears is through experience. Something he doesn't have.
