He can run the ball though. We're a running team. Nobody is saying Williams is your every down all purpose back. He doesnt have to be. McFadden is your blocker. Better than murray at pass pro imo. The stats back that up.

Great, why don't we just put our play on the jumbo tron for everybody to see while we are at it.

You do not think the other team is going to notice when McFadden is in the game vs Williams?

If Williams cant pass block, doesn't take Einstein to realize that when Williams is in the game we are probably not passing.

I meant they won't be better in 2015 because of the new players. They can improve because Martin will be in his 2nd year and Fred/Leary will be in their 3rd years.

Fred is likely to start which would leave the only possible improvement from ths draft picks coming from Collins replacing Leary. Leary has been a quality OG so expecting a rookie to be a huge upgrade is unlikely regardless of draft status.

Wasn't Zach Martin an upgrade? He was a first round talent I thought. He was also a tackle moved to guard.....you see where I'm going with this? If your agenda is to bring up parnell as often as possible you succeeded. The reason collins is here is because he is going to take learys job. His knees are at any given time ready to implode. Collins wins his job in training camp. That's it

It would take very little time to figure that out. He simply has to get better at it to really have a meatier role.

It's an issue for him, but it didn't keep him from winning the job in AZ before the injury, and he's been working on it for a couple of seasons, since. I didn't think Sturm's examples of his pass blocking were all that bad. Granted, the sample size was small, but there was really only the one play where he took a misstep and still made it over to get in the way of his man. The two examples of him tunneling don't mean that's the only way he blocks. It could well be that in a larger sample he show a wider variety. Just looking at how he lowers his pad level to take on tackles with the ball in his hands, he seems to be fairly natural at changing levels like that quickly, anyway.

But overall I agree, pass protection is his biggest challenge for making the roster this season.

Good coaches can help hide these defeciencies. I'm not going to get into X's & O's but I'm sure they can put a player with ability like that in a position to succeed. There's a ton of starting running backs that aren't good at pass blocking.

No, Parnell has nothing to do with Leary vs Collins. The point is that Leary is a better player than fans give him credit for. Even if Collins "wins" the job, there is not going to be a significant difference because Collins as a rookie and Leary as a quality veteran. Martin was All-Pro as a rookie. That is a rare rare feat and expecting that from Collins is unrealistic. The actual probability of that happen is very low. The probability of an All-Pro rookie OL is already very low and then to expecting it to happen again on the same team in consecutive years is just unrealistic.

My biggest issue is that people making bold proclamations relative to Collins and Leary, have probably not spent any significant time (or none at all) reviewing either of both of their game footage in great detail. The media has not told those fans repeatedly that Leary is a good player; therefore, in their minds, me must not be. On the flip side, the media has hyped the Collins signing and he was 1st round talent, so in the fans mind there is no question that he is better right this minute than Leary.

I've already said that Collins and Green were excellent acquisitions and are the future. The future would including the possibility of Leary's knee giving out. Leary's knee is another issue where fans make bold proclamations but very few have actually reviewed the issue in detail.

If Williams cant pass block, doesn't take Einstein to realize that when Williams is in the game we are probably not passing.

There are many snaps when the RB does not attempt to pass block or might only be able to pass block from one side. Consider when a RB goes out for a pass in the flat. They generally can only pass block if the rusher is coming to that side of the formation. Sometimes they go out for passes with no delay which means they can't pass block at all. The RB going out for a pass often takes a rusher with him, especially against 3-4 defenses.

The Cowboys also run the empty backfield formation often. There is nobody to block in that formation, so if they just execute those same plays but with the RB aligned in the backfield they can do it without reliance on the RB blocking.

I don't think any of that will be necessary because I'm certain that they had Williams working on pass blocking every day last season while he was on the PS. He might not be as good as McFadden, but I'm certain that he will be better than he has been in the past.
