I was specifically saying from rounds 4-7.

I agree the odds are not great with late round QB's however having seen a lot of 1st rd bust I would say finding a top quality QB in any rd can be difficult. I do think part of the problems are guys being thrown into the mix well before they are actually ready to take over. BP mentioned that with Romo had he been thrown out there early on he did not feel Romo would have made it.

Yes. Outside of those two, how many have become decent NFL starters? 115 have been drafted from rounds 4-7 since 2000. Only Brady, Bulger, Fitzpatrick and Orton have had success.

I think you left somebody off that list. Unless by some unimaginable reason, a guy undrafted does not fit the mold of unusual, while rounds 4-7 do.
Slight oversight, I'm sure.

Anyway, I agree...it's very rare.

Gimme Austin Davis in free agency this year. Then if the right guy falls in the draft next year then go for it. I don't want anything to do with Bryce Petty! He may be worse than Kevin Kolb

Lightning in a bottle?

No 2 overall quality teams and well disciplined. I think organization a QB ends up on plays a pretty big role in the development of that QB. As great as Brady has been I don't know if you put him on the Tampa Bay team if he is wearing those rings.

You left off Romo as a very good starting QB who was not a 1st rd pick.

I mean, he also wasn't drafted. So there's that. You need some insider Payton happens to be at his alma mater EIU stuff to make that happen again.

True but that is also what your scouts should be doing. I think some teams will rush a QB and do so when there are so few parts around them to even have a chance at success

Austin Davis would be an excellent back up...

Yes but he has tasted starting and he was somewhat successful, a team, would offer him a starting role or at least to compete for one would have leg up on Dallas.

you think? I hope he's in competition for our back up role... but who knows.. you may be right

If you add round 3 to that, you have a few more, same with being undrafted.

Telling just how bad Weedon is lol

Not really. If you don't like your backup, you don't handicap him with a guy like Vaughan who's rap was that he needed mechanical work coming out. We handicapped Orton with Weeden, and then didn't like any of the 'experienced' options out there last season to unseat Weeden.

What'll be interesting to see if whether or not Vaughan can develop at a fast enough rate to pass Weeden in camp. Given Weeden't college experience, that's not really all that high a bar. My bet is that we bring in another youngish-retreadish QB to camp, ostensibly to give him a shot to unseat Weeden, and then let all three compete for that QB2 role. That's assuming we don't pickup a college QB in the draft, first.

For my part, I didn't see enough from Vaughan to justify the roster spot in the first place. If he can't be a backup by his sophomore year, I don't see the point in protecting him again. We've got to churn and burn that QB rotation, and we've got to have a guy who can win a game or three in the QB2 slot. That means QB3 has to show positivity signs pretty quickly or he gets exposed to waivers on the way to the PS.

I was kidding. I get it.

This is a terrible draft for quarterbacks. Not the year to be looking for a franchise guy.

How can we know that though?

Looking for a piece of coal that pressurizes into eventual diamond.

Personally, I think Romo should be a part of this process. Romo could become part of staff in future.
By then he and Garrett will have perfected much

Romo had greatness. Bad Decisions have hurt him. Maybe he helps mold a good QB for us... One that makes better decisions.

No, that is not a shoy at Romo. Just what I have seen.

I like Shane Carden, but his upside is probably limited. Probably more of a career backup type.....though I'd love to see him do more.

I watched the senior bowl. Bryan Bennet seemed intriguing. The rest.....no thanks.

I've seen Carden play live this season. Not that impressive. He had a great group of wide-outs. He looked horrible at the Senior Bowl running a pro offense. No thanks for me.
