You left off Romo as a very good starting QB who was not a 1st rd pick.
I was specifically saying from rounds 4-7.

Yes. Outside of those two, how many have become decent NFL starters? 115 have been drafted from rounds 4-7 since 2000. Only Brady, Bulger, Fitzpatrick and Orton have had success.
True then again this past SB saw a former 3rd and 6th rd QB's playing in the SB. lol
Lightning in a bottle?
I still think the fact that they kept Vaughan on the 53 all year is pretty telling.

I mean, he also wasn't drafted. So there's that. You need some insider Payton happens to be at his alma mater EIU stuff to make that happen again.
Gimme Austin Davis in free agency this year. Then if the right guy falls in the draft next year then go for it. I don't want anything to do with Bryce Petty! He may be worse than Kevin Kolb
Austin Davis would be an excellent back up...
Yes but he has tasted starting and he was somewhat successful, a team, would offer him a starting role or at least to compete for one would have leg up on Dallas.

Telling just how bad Weedon is lol
Not really. If you don't like your backup, you don't handicap him with a guy like Vaughan who's rap was that he needed mechanical work coming out. We handicapped Orton with Weeden, and then didn't like any of the 'experienced' options out there last season to unseat Weeden.
What'll be interesting to see if whether or not Vaughan can develop at a fast enough rate to pass Weeden in camp. Given Weeden't college experience, that's not really all that high a bar. My bet is that we bring in another youngish-retreadish QB to camp, ostensibly to give him a shot to unseat Weeden, and then let all three compete for that QB2 role. That's assuming we don't pickup a college QB in the draft, first.
For my part, I didn't see enough from Vaughan to justify the roster spot in the first place. If he can't be a backup by his sophomore year, I don't see the point in protecting him again. We've got to churn and burn that QB rotation, and we've got to have a guy who can win a game or three in the QB2 slot. That means QB3 has to show positivity signs pretty quickly or he gets exposed to waivers on the way to the PS.
This is a terrible draft for quarterbacks. Not the year to be looking for a franchise guy.
I like Shane Carden, but his upside is probably limited. Probably more of a career backup type.....though I'd love to see him do more.
