News: DMN: Tony Romo misses cut at Azalea Invitational

If Romo is back playing golf then he must be seriously thinking about retirement.

Been saying that since the Seattle hit in the preseason.

He was a long way from thinking about retirement then. He thought he would be back in the lineup once he recovered from that injury.

Here are just a few QB that are very heavy golfers...

Tom Brady...very good golfer
Aaron Rodgers...maybe best golfer (between him and healthy Romo)
Ben Roethlisberger...good
Matt Ryan...very good
Drew Brees
Alex Smith...very good
Eli Manning
Russell Wilson...so so
Carson Palmer

And others

Dak does golf some....maybe he should take it up over fishing:laugh:

Seems like his back or at least his disc have come out of the surgery pretty well he's been doing a lot of work with his core for years since which is essential
I think his back issues are similar to mine and if he can avoid bending and lifting golf doesn't seem to bother me, "when I haven't lifted something stupid that is"

It seems that his biggest issue is that his bones are prone to breaking. IIRC it was 2 or 3 times with a broken collarbone and 2 times with broken bone in his back. The original back issue was a herniated disc, but I think that has been OK for a long time now.

Unlike a lot of back issues, a broken bone probably does not cause on-going pain once it's healed.

Technically, he owes the Cowboys 12 million if he retires.

Jerry is unlikely to hold him to that requirement, but he could if he wanted to do it.

Agree. If Romo writes that check for 12 million. Jerry would sign him as a consultant for 12 million a year.

I remember Tony putting golf on the shelf a few years ago, due to his back. He said something about how he couldn't play golf while still in football. Maybe this is a sign he might be hanging it up.

Nah, just out playing golf with his dad, being competitive. It's not easy to go out and shoot a 77/78 with a few rounds under your belt in last year. I guess this kills the bad back theory.

It takes 100% health, strength and stability in the back to swing a golf club/driver 110 mph.

Fred Couples has had back issues for a couple of decades and can still swing a Driver 110+ mph. It's important that Romo keeps his back healthy if he intends on continuing to play football and golf isn't the way to do it which is why he gave up golf in the first place. He claimed his back felt great at the time but that he didn't want to take any chances. He talked about how much strain the golf swing puts on your back. I play golf so I know about this.

If Romo if golfing again then he must be done with football. File your retirement papers Tony and get into broadcasting. :)

Fred Couples swings at 120mph + every day. Different circumstances. He plays pain free now after he learned how to manage it.

Completely different circumstances, Fred Couples doesn't take hits playing QB in the NFL. He hasn't had the variety of back injuries Romo has had. Practically every golfer that has a back problem it's a result of playing golf.

Correct and Romo rarely plays golf anymore. My point was his back is healthy if he's out playing in a golf tournament.
