This is a link to vote for the better pick but I was wondering who you guys thought was really the better pick? Allen or Irvin? I dont know but probably would take Irvin over Allen because he was the soul of the team and we had a great line anyway although the man was special. It is a great question that they came up with.

As great as Irvin was, Larry Allen is the best ever at his position, Michael wasn't.

Allen was a second-rounder.

Irvin was a top 15 pick.

If the question is "who is the better draft pick," then it has to be Allen.

Arguably the best guard ever .... in the second round.

LA for where he was drafted and he maybe the greatest guard to ever play. First ballot HOF.

Have to go with Irvin. He was the heart and soul of the 90s dynasty. Better at his position sure it was Allen, better draft pick Irvin

The old timers will tell you Jim Parker is the greatest O Lineman ever.

How could this debate be "not even close" or "hands down"?

Answer: It's not.

It's very debateable in favor of either player because of the incredible impact both HOF (future in Larry's case) players made. Purely a matter of opinion.

If I have to decide, I'll go with the skill guy who also set the work ethic standard for the entire team.

But don't tell Larry. :eek::

Except everyone IS debating it. With varied opinions, so I disagree.

I'd pick Michael - without him I doubt we get 3 SBs
Same can't be said for Allen, though he was so very very good.

R2A has something to say about that, mainly that Irvin was the heart and soul of 3 super bowl winning teams, and Allen won one? Allen may have been the best O-line ever, but Irvin is a top 5 WR all-time and he has won 3 super bowls. Advantage Irvin.

Holy cow. Larry Allen in a runaway. I have said it before, he is not appreciated enough because he played an unsexy position. He is the most dominant player we have ever had at his position. The gap from him to John Hannah as the 2nd best OF ever is the widest gap in our History.

11 times he went to the Pro Bowl. 6 times he was 1st team All Pro. He played 4 different positions along the OL in his career here. He earned All Pro and Pro Bowl honors at 3 of those 4 positions.

To answer Irvin is to really not get how important LA was. In a runaway I tell you.

Because Irvin was drafted in 1988 and Larry Allen in 1995 that is a deciding factor................you never cease to amaze me.

That's fine if that's your choice, but at least use a logical argument.

By the way, you love numbers. Based on numbers it can be said Irvin is not even among the top 15 WR's of all time let alone the top 5.

He only played 11 seasons and only played 4 games in one of those.
I know and agree than Allen was the greatest oline player of all time, but the fact is Irvin helped this team become a dynasty, Allen played in the last year-two of the dynasty and then played on a ****ty team for a decade.
