Jon Machota, Cowboys beat writer for SportsDayDFW.com and The Dallas Morning News, answered your questions about the Cowboys team in a live chat recently. Here are some highlights:

Question: Which teams from now until the bye week do you see the Cowboys able to win/lose against and why/why not?

Machota: As of today, my prediction would be Bears win, 49ers win, Bengals loss, Packers loss

Question: Serious question: If you're the Cowboys defense, would you rather face Brian Hoyer or Jay Cutler? Seems like Cutler throws you a few balls a game, wouldn't you want him?

I agree with Hoyer. Cutler can turn the ball over but he could also hook up with Jeffery and really dictate the game for them. Hoyer is much more limited

I think chicago is going to watch the tapes of the first two games and realize staying with the run is how to win. I expect chicago to do just that and keep hoyer in good downs and distances.

We need to score and get a lead to make sure they can not do that. If they are forced to pass to play catch up I think we win going away. If we do not score and they are within 10 points in the second half they are going to run the ball and it is going to be tense.

Broaddus was just on The Fan. I didn't catch all of it. But he did say....Dallas won 14 times by double digits, and lost 12 times by double digits. All other games under Garrett have been less.....
And we know there are a lot one score games.

He also said, this is a hard game, as he said, but I forget who he said, said it. That you do not want to play a desperate team. And an 0-2 team is desperate as they want to turn their season around and not go 0-3.

IMO. This can be a trap game and very hard to win. Look at the track record under Garrett.

Yup, this games scares me, it shouldn't but it does.

Don't play to your competition.

To me, so goes the confidence/demeanor/playing style of the quarterback, so goes the team.

Staubach - a miracle worker so we're never out of a game.
Aikman - business like so we tended to take care of business against team we should have beaten.
Romo - Favrian, would make the great plays but make a bonehead mistake to cost us a game, and the team by and large played like that too.

Dak seems like a serious student - calm, collected and deliberate. Maybe I'm wrong, but I expect this team to follow his lead.

I heard that desperate team argument and thought to myself "give me a whole schedule full of desperate teams." Teams that are desperate in week 3 are bad. Broaddus says some really dumb things sometimes.

These Bears have a pretty good defense still. It won't be a cake walk, but we've got them at a serious disadvantage. This is a game where we should be able to put their offense in a difficult position and get them playing low percentage football pretty quickly. I'm looking forward to seeing if Dak can take the next big step and get this running game some looks we can be successful with.

Should we take the model used against us and focus on stopping the run, and try to make their backup beat us with his arm? How is their run game?

I would love to see a big pass play(attempt) the first play of the game.

Miss the days of the flea flicker lol

Langford had a very good year 2 years ago, but not sure how he did last year. He has the talent but their OL is completely revamped, but is not really all that good yet. Though they could be.
Which means against our pass rush [or lack of] they will look like all pros.

Hope he doesn't have to.
Blow out would be nice.
Three TDs from Dak Vader and two more from the D.
That would make me say "You like that"

Bob Sturm writes about the lack of home field advantage with the Cowboys in the DMN and how startling it really is. In fact, we have a 54% win percentage on the road which is one of the best in the league but we have one of the worst percentages at home since the opening of the stadium.

Of the things he contributes this to (yes, he includes the lack of enthusiasm of lower seat fans) another factor is that Garrett is way more conservative at home than he is on the road. He thinks if he would be more aggressive at home we would have better results.

This is an interesting game for Dak. On the one hand it's a decent opportunity for them to take the training wheels off and go for some deeper passing routes, try to expand his game a little. On the other hand they should be able to grind it out for a win without taking many risks,,, so why give the Bears chances when we don't have to?

This is not a trap game. We are the better team.

The only way we lose this game is if we play scared or beat ourselves. Period.
