LOL. Was Emmitt a great player? Certainly. Was Emmitt the reason we won SBs? Nope. Those teams were complete teams that had a great running game, great passing attack and great defense.

Comparisons between those teams and then taking Elliott and thinking that's the same recipe for success is just incorrect IMO. Because you are completely and utterly short selling the other aspects of those great 90s teams.

No one is saying Emmitt was the sole reason the Cowboys won SB's but he was clearly the MVP of our 90s teams. In our second SB vs Buffalo the Bills had the upper hand in the first half but that 3rd quarter drive that saw Emmitt have over 60 yards that led to him scoring sucked the life out of the Bills and it was all the Cowboys from that point on. I'm not one of those who thinks taking Elliott is going to result in the dominance we had in the 90s not by a long stretch but the fact is the best team we've had under Romo featured an elite season by our top runner. During our championship years Aikman didn't have to do near as much as what Romo's had to do over his career. If we lose him we lose most of our games because everything on offense revolves around Romo and our passing game.

If you put too much on your QBs shoulders it's going to lead to bad things eventually especially if you don't have a good defense. Romo's never had the luxury of a solid, playmaking defense. We can't rush the passer, cover, tackle or force turnovers other than that we're great. Pairing an elite runner behind our OL would certainly help the team especially Romo. If he's once again having to carry the offense in 2016 he'll be back on the sidelines in street clothes injured again. The only thing that's going to keep him on the field and our defense from being exposed every week and losing games in the 4th quarter is a ball control offense that features a solid, consistent running game. We need a back who can get it done in short yardage and goal line situations. We can't rely on Romo and Bailey for all our points.

Despite Romo playing behind the best OL in the league the past 2 seasons he's taking more sacks than he's ever taken because he's slowing down. He's not as slippery and quick as he once was and it's resulted in a lot of sacks the past few seasons. A big part of his game is extending plays but he's getting sacked a lot more now and it's resulted in him missing games the past 3 seasons. In his first 3 full starting seasons in 07, 08 and 09 he was sacked 78 times.

In our 3 straight 8-8 seasons he was sacked 107 times. The more he has to set up and throw the more we risk losing him. If you don't have a running threat that teams have to respect and it's all put on your aging, injury prone QB to keep the offense on the field and score TD's the inevitable is going to happen.
