Do not challenge pass interference calls

If Bill O'Brien's challenge on the pass interference call was not overturned, none of them will be. That ball was 10 yards beyond a receiver running a comeback route.

Every route can be called pass interference, usually on both the defender and the receiver. It's going to be virtually impossible to reverse any of them.

This was a painfully STUPID rule change.

Garrett needs to keep his flag in his pocket on those all season.

Humans are egotistical beings. When it comes to a judgment call like pass interference I wouldn’t be surprised if some refs don’t like to be questioned to much. They should be professional and do their job but that’s never stopped anyone before.

Don’t believe it. It’s a way for the nfl/ refs to control the outcome of a game. This will have major impact on games and at least one playoff game will be effected in a negative way.

Hahahahahahah..yeah, and goodell travels on a ufo to attend games

While I agree it was dumb, I think the point was to be able to prevent something as egregious as we saw in the playoffs which it likely would

I know what you are saying. But do the refs have the ability on the replays to make the determination that the ball wasn't catchable or are they only reviewing to confirm if contact was made while the ball was in the air?

The replay rules may be written the way it was called and if so then the coaches need to be smarter and only use the flag in cases where the rep can overturn the calls.

Contact is made on EVERY play. What would they possibly overturn?

I don’t know, but you are right. There is contact on every play and right now they are using a sort eye test to determine if it’s egregious enough to call or not.

This thread doesn’t make any sense. This was put in place because of an egregious PI missed call that would have been reversed upon review 100 out of 100 times.

Every single incomplete pass, fumble, interception, foot out of bounds, knee down/not down can be reviewed, and they have been upheld on countless occasions over the years due to wasted challenges. This is no different. Why not remove all those things too? Because this is new and uncomfortable to you?

This rule should have been added years ago. Ticky Tack (And often WRONG) PI calls are the most annoying thing in the game right now because they can seriously alter momentum, and in some cases decide the outcome.

I’d rather a ref decide the outcome of a game by correcting a mistake judicially than letting a mistake stand because people don't like changes.

The Ref made the wrong call on the play to begin with. There was illegal contact not PI. I am starting to think that given the poor performance by the Refs week in and week out, some teams with good people in the booth will be able to take advantage of the poor judgement calls. Mistakes will be made, I just don't want it to take an additional 10 minutes to get the call wrong.

well I would, why they could get it right next time..

heres why, on a challenge they are allowed to look at the entire picture and call other infractions.. it was at the very least illegal contact or holding..it was flag PI on th 1yard line it was not but ball in air you can NOT make that kind of contact..period...the flag was correct the call was not..

not stupid seen them get it correct and for sure at acritical moment a call or non call will help a team in challenge..its why it was implemented..whats stupid is the rams get free pass to the SB on their resume when we get robbed to see Brady vs Brees matchup..the kinks will get worked out..

so fari lie what ive seen from it

exactly contact made at the very least its illegal contact or holding...uncatchable might take away a pI but a foul would have been called either way..impeding a WR back to ball on back shoulder is called, why not assume the WR on this play couldn't make his way forward to the spot to catch it because of the contact and hold??

It WILL affect games, much like the ref who caused this rule change by not throwing laundry against the Rams in their playoff game against the Saints. Apparently, he was the only being in the universe who didn’t see the blatant PI.
Well, maybe his bookie as well.

As much as I told my wife that the ball was not catchable and would be over turned I was shocked to find out they didn't. Have seen other challenged plays this year that was. We will see....

Wait, I thought this rule was brought in because the refs fixed the Rams-Saints game. Why would they need a rule to do something they're already doing?

At first I thought it should be overturned. Watching the replay I couldn't tell if the receiver was forced of his route, making it uncatchable. A case could be made either way on that play.

I would only challenge if it's so egregious that the refs dont have a choice but to change the call.

If it's at all a judgement call, then I'm not trusting these refs. I'd just assume save the challenge and the timeout because no one is going to predict what the refs call if it's at all close.

Well, maybe his bookie as well.

This has nothing to do w the games being fixed
