This off-season, I've been trying my hardest to divest myself from all delusions about the Dallas Cowboys. I have even prayed while consulting the Magic 8 Ball, the most sacred sources of all truth.

The hardest truth of all to face: what if the Cowboys do exactly what they have done - make the playoffs but get bounced out again in the divisional round? What if it's against the 49ers?

I so want to make declarative statements and pretend that I have the strength to walk away from the Dallas Cowboys If needed. But the truth is that Jerry Jones and his marketing brilliance is too powerful to resist. I'll somehow get roped into one more season of delusion. Happens every season.

Before this thread gets deleted , are there any other brave souls willing to confess their hopelessness when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys?

That reads as very fearful. I suggest getting a handle on your emotions because such a response over something which you bear no responsibility or control is certainly fraught.

Don't worry. There is no white knuckling going on. Just a passive-aggressive thing going on with a dose of sarcasm- a feeling all Cowboys fans should be familiar with by now!

Not because of him or marketing but because of history.

I became an exclusive fan out of one of the toughest losses the team ever had, the Ice Bowl. They do not have to win to keep me.

I actually had to make a fan decision years ago on whether I wanted to be a Cowboys fan or not because of the owner. I decided if I was to continue, I would avoid any exposure to Booger, his face and mouth and have successfully done that and remained a fan. I only know what is brought to these forums regarding him, which is plenty enough.

Please do cowboys, because every year more cowboys fans die without seeing another superbowl...I am only 40 and used to always laugh at those posts, but I get it now...

It's a tough one I think the defense gets us to the playoffs no matter what the offense does. The NFC East is going to be more difficult than it has been in a few years and I have no faith in Mike McCarthy or our beloved QB.
However this defense, I believe, will be the best we've had in almost thirty years.
I don't know about fans, but for some coaches and players it's do or die.
I can tell you this much, if it was 1998 ish again and you told me it was going to be 25 years before we field a championship team. I might have switched colors.

I have hope every year. But I have brain problems. Too much death metal cranked into my ears at volume 11 and drunken falls.

Browns, Lions and Chargers fan have never seen one.
Hard to believe Tomlinson never won a SB but I imagine the Chargers' best years in those days came when Brees was still getting acclimated. Plus, friggin Brady.

Anyone who’s been following the team for decades isn’t about to walk away. I’ve never even considered walking away from the team. I’ve experienced the extreme highs and the extreme lows, and have never wavered. It’s till death do us part for me and the Cowboys. I can’t see even the fans who have just jumped on board the past decade, walking away as long as the team keeps making the playoffs.

Just to be clear you have seen several SB wins in your lifetime and think you are entitled to more than 3 every 30 years?

I always laugh at the fans that claim they’re done with the team after they get bounced from the playoffs, only to return the next season. Lol

Exactly, there is only 1 family that has that control. And that's the Jones family. if the Jones family wants us to go all the way, they'll make it happen.

Sorry to correct you Coach but Chargers have seen a Super Bowl . 1994

The only current NFL teams without a SB appearance are Cleveland , Detroit , Houston and Jacksonville.

I feel sorry for the OP. Maybe a doctor visit would help.

I was there for the first SB the Boys ever won and for the other 4 afterwards.

I understand the game has changed because of FA and Caps. If we were able to keep teams/groups together for the long haul, we would probably have won more SB's by now. Not the case. It's just a game and I am the biggest Cowboy fan that I know of. So are all of my buddies that I grew up in Dallas.

Quit your belly aching for goodness sake.

Probably why most people forget about it. I think that's the one SB I turned off in the first quarter. If we only had beaten the 49ers we would have destroyed the Chargers too./
Here’s a trivia question most wouldn’t get without looking up. Who was Chargers QB?

Here’s a hint. He was backup to Mark Rypien in Wash in 1991 when he won it.
