Do the Cowboys have a Michael Gallup problem?

It’s a concern for sure. He hasn’t looked the same since his knee surgery. But….it’s very early in a long season.

Some skill position guys take longer to get back because of physical and mental blocks. I think Gallup’s issues are between the ears. But again, it’s too early to declare him “a problem“ after 2 games.

Maybe.....Gallup is more of a vertical guy but it's early. We'll see after a few more games

Yeah I’m gonna need more than a blowout in a rainstorm and a blowout against a QB deficient team before I can say he’s finished.

There just hasn’t been much opportunity yet to do any real judging. He also saw a lot of Sauce Gardner last week. No matter how high you are on Gallup I don’t think we expect him to consistently beat #1 corners, let alone top 5 CB’s.

We must wait for more open and aggressive games before making any calls on this.

They aren't really looking his way much. It's not like he's dropping balls or anything.

There's only one football, and Dak loves throwing to the tight ends and running backs. Cee Dee is going to get his throws. That only leaves about 6-8 throws to spread between Cooks, Gallup, and Tolbert.

According to Next Gen Stats, Gallup's 2.4 average yards of separation in 2022 were the eleventh lowest in the league. While some could see this as indication he's far away from his pre-injury self, in reality it's par for the course. Gallup averaged the same yards per separation last season before his injury.

His explosiveness and speed may not be back to where they were before, but Gallup has never relied on extreme separation to make plays.

Michael Gallup has always been technician in tight situations. His ability to receive the ball after a significant last micro-second deflection is no small thing. A skill only matched by his tightrope ability pic.twitter.com/xogmBgs85B

Cowboys could use more of this version of Michael Gallup

No, they threw the ball to Lamb because the Jets didn't move their corners.

I do know that if Prescott had been able to avoid getting sacked on the roll out to his right, Gallup was open in the end-zone. He just wasn't fast enough to avoid the sack. He's never really been that fast horizontally. He's best going downhill.

It is a concern given the amount of money he is making - which isn't a lot, but for basically no production it is significant.

it's two games, theres plenty of better WRs across the league who are struggling to find their groove with their QBs right now so i'm not concerned ....now if it's midway through the season and he only has 12 catches for 80 yards total, then i'll be concerned.

Guy wasn't worth the money they signed him for. But I guess it was the market price.

One game vs NYG was a down pour and we couldn't target and do all and as much as we wanted to do in that kind of
weather.
vs NY Jets Gallup is matched up against Sauce with Cooks being out.

I dunno if he's a natural slot guy, as he's never been the most acute route runner.
That still remains the weakest part of his game, imo.

He's great for out-physical and close contested catches and occasionally he'll make the
great spectacular catch and drops some easy ones.
And occasionally he will "sneak' deep but not a great separation guy like Cooks.

I do figure that for the money contract Gally has, he has to produce more than just one catch per game.
But its very premature to make snap overall judgement on him now, this outlook needs to measured
by season's end vs just first 2 games of the year .. Very long season

i wonder if the giants/jets gameplan was to make dak force it to CD by removing gallup/others and bank on him making mistakes because of it. (Which didnt work this time).

Could be why hes not showing up as much, dunno just spitballin

I like Gallup much better than Jaylon but smells like a similar situation. Not worth the contract obviously.
