Do the Cowboys have a Michael Gallup problem?

Michael Gallup now looks like the most overpaid player on the roster at the moment.

We don't know what his future holds here, but he's here this season and at some point will be asked to make that down the field catch. Hopefully he gets on track and can atleast contribute 600 receiving yards, but has to find his mojo again.

It's NOT week 3....it's week 20 something since he has been back...and he looks just as inept as last season. He is LAST in the ENTIRE NFL in yards run per play. You CANNOT afford to sit back and possibly risk losses and seeding waiting for a "good guy" to turn things around. Tolbert needs to be starting and getting the valuable reps needed. Some of y'all are soooo stuck in neutral.
wt HECK...Thats funny. Im just saying I want him to sink or swim but am willing to give him 1 last chance. Hes fresh out of lives this year. Not sure why the club continues to hang onto him like he's ever done anything. Its weird. But since hes here, lets give him 3-4 more games. I doubt it will matter but hey. Maybe we can send him to Houston. They still need guys at wr. personally, I thought it was bizarre they paid him instead releasing him or trading him. I mean, the guy was still rehabbing a big injury. I thought Ced Wilson should have been paid, not him. Ced earned it I felt. MG didnt. Thats spilled milk. Now he has to do something.

I like the kid but he just seems to lack that desire. Hes 2 nice. Gimme that DAWG , not the choir boy. Just seems content almost.

Yes Gallup has an issue. But why be in a hurry to get rid of him. I'm all for letting the young kids earn more reps instead of Gallup. Maybe he will work his way back, maybe he needs to find the dog in him, or by years end if not then cut him next camp.

Another in a long line of contracts Jerry got himself into where he signs a guy coming off a serious injury before the guy is even back on the field.

and why eat that dead $ if we release him when we can just wait it out? They made a terrible mistake resigning him after a big injury. Hes never been right since.I expect they will give him a handful of games but he better show something. They are heavily invested/vested in him. I agree.

Might not be a good fit for the new system.
With the exception of one good year he was a streaky player. More often than not it seemed like when nothing else was working and the plays were breaking down so dak would scramble...THAT was when he seemed to shine the most.

With that said. You got Tolbert starting to come on and you got Cooks and it would seem the cowboys are getting better at getting WRs.

Might be time to trade Gallup.

Even if he don't I doubt they move on this year. Almost zero benefit to move on.. might as well see if he gets better in time. So instead of top 3 he's what 5th or 6th best receiver. Tolbert and Turpin jump him a little bit. Maybe those guys see an opportunity to take reps from Gallup and step up to do so.

Maybe.....Gallup is more of a vertical guy but it's early. We'll see after a few more games

No. We're undefeated and in 2 games we've scored 70 points. We don't have too many problems right now. If Gallup causes us to lose a game then we have a problem.

An attempt at snarky humor. And a whiff.

Although, I bet the kicker could make XPs with his left foot.
Also, I bet the punter can "coffin corner" from midfield left-footed.

The former OC ran his final play with the team that had only one
interior lineman, the center, which was actually the team's RB.
So, you're late to the game of ridiculousness on that one.

Nah, I'd rather have a former 1100 yard WR out there handling his assignments each play while waiting on the HC to call his number.
Sorry, but to say you are not worried about someones inability to get open and make catches, just because you are winning is asinine....see how that theory works out week 5 in SF.

You're looking at this from a fantasy football point of view.
The players are graded out every game by their coaches.
Clearly, Gallup is doing his job well enough in their eyes.
They're not interested in satisfying the stat groupies.
The player will be rewarded eventually.

You're going to put the SF game on Gallup being on the field.
Talk about asinine... lol.
Based on your logic, if Dallas beats SF and Gallup has zero catches, I'm right, but if he catches 10 and scores twice and they lose, I'm wrong!?!... lol/smh

The games after the Pats when we're playing some legit scoring teams will be where we figure out if it's Gallup's decline, or just the fact that in game one we didn't even need the offense, or game two when the obvious strategy was run, run, run and find CeeDee.

I'm all for getting rid of Gallup but I'm not sure Jalen Tolbert has shown anything to make me believe he needs to be the replacement. Dude catches 3 balls for 18 yards and everybody's like he's arrived.

I think Big Mike will decide when to show us if Gallup is fully back.
He's not going to get a dozen targets a game. He'll be lucky to get six.
There's only one ball and the offense is designed to get it out quickly.
Gallup is a deep ball sideline WR.

No harm in that, not everyone is going to fit into a revised offense or defense. I put a reply earlier in the thread in jest about calling Kellen, but I am serious. Get something now while they still believe in Kellen as their boy. Although, like Risen Star points out above, if Cooks isn't healthy, not sure there is much proven depth at WR. I've already seen enough to convince me that Cooks is our #2. Just hope he can stay healthy.

I think Gallup's skill set isn't a good fit for the WCO, but I don't feel he's washed or anything like that. When you add up all the factors involving MG I side with patience.

Side note: I thought Dennis Houston had a good skill set for this offense.

It never made any sense to re-sign Gallup after a serious injury. I said, at the time I would have rather kept Cedrick Wilson, who had played well for us when given opportunities. Gallup clearly isn’t the same player he was and the short passing game doesn’t seem to fit him. When he was playing his best football, he made most of his plays down the field. Would be difficult to trade him with the way he’s performed.
I wanted Cedric Wilson back to. He was a better reciever for Dak than Gallup and seems to be in sync with Dak. Wish we would have kept him over Gallup.
