Do the Cowboys have a Michael Gallup problem?

It’s a concern for sure. He hasn’t looked the same since his knee surgery. But….it’s very early in a long season.

Some skill position guys take longer to get back because of physical and mental blocks. I think Gallup’s issues are between the ears. But again, it’s too early to declare him “a problem“ after 2 games.
..then again Bullet. Maybe he showed flashes of being really good player and has regressed to avg Joe.

I think he's doing OK, per se. But for the pay he is taking in, gotta turn it up.

According to Next Gen Stats, Gallup's 2.4 average yards of separation in 2022 were the eleventh lowest in the league. While some could see this as indication he's far away from his pre-injury self, in reality it's par for the course. Gallup averaged the same yards per separation last season before his injury.

His explosiveness and speed may not be back to where they were before, but Gallup has never relied on extreme separation to make plays.

Cowboys could use more of this version of Michael Gallup

Good to see the stats backup what I’ve seen with my eyes and have been saying all along…Gallup has never gotten separation…which is why he usually has to make tough, tight throw catches.
Since he is not ever going to get separation and it looks like MM wants to playcall conservative to keep Dak from turning it over, it is likely that Gallup won’t get many looks all season. I agree with MMs strategy too, we don’t want Dak forcing tight throws. Our D can carry us if we don’t gift other teams points via turnovers.

Been saying it for a while. Gallup is not a good fit for a WCO. Plus he hasn't looked the same since his injury.

He's fine. It's game 2 and there are other WRs in the stable.
Plus, we're not exactly passing for a ton of yardage which both lessons the percentages and pisses off the trolls.
And he's made some great plays post surgery, so I know he's not hindered.

With the acquisition of Cooks and the development of Tolbert, Gallup is superfluous. He’s unnecessary and really a progress-stopper at this point.

His contract only makes a bad situation worse. Cooks definitely brings more to the table and Tolbert has an additional two years at a cheap cost.

The Gallup contract was a huge mistake.

Doesn't hurt too bad because if Tolbert pans out and needs to be paid, Gallup will be long gone with little to any dead cap space.

Next year is an issue though, so let's hope he picks it up.

1. IMO he was rushed last year due to the lack of depth at WR
2. Mentally, he wasn't ready to play. He admitted that prior to the start of the year and after.
3. Dallas really hasn't had to pass the ball all too often. Big leads or playing a staunch D with no offense, has lead to running the ball and short passes to eat clock.
4. New offensive wrinkles to the scheme. Willing to see how the next 3-4 games go.
5. Luckily, if he struggles, they got Cooks and hopefully Tolbert can show that the preseason showing is the real Tolbert

Bro...he's NOT getting separation....focus on him and see for yourself. He is slow as molasses coming off the line.
Thing is that he's never been a separation guy, he's about body position, downfield targets and catching contested balls. This season the emphasis for Dak is to avoid tight windows, throw to the wide open guys on shallow/intermediate routes. Gallup's skill set might be better served for downfield targets when Dak has more time,,,

4 targets in 2 games. Doesn't sound like a Gallup problem to me.
It could be , he is not getting separation it means. QBs look at you when you are running free and screaming I am free , give me the ball, LOL

I will wait and give it all some more time. And no, the 20 games he had is not a concern. Some expectations are just too high. Not every WR can get 100 receptions and 1200 yards.
With the MM system no one but lamb is gonna get a huge number of targets. It’s obvious he wants to spread the ball around. Pollard, Turpin and Duece will get targets, the TE and then you have cook. Just a lot of playmakers to get a 3rd WR many targets. Cook and lamb are perfect types in this system

It's too early to worry this is an issue. Week 1 was an oddball game. Week 2 was also a blowout but we ran of a more "normal" offense, but Sauce was on Gallup a lot. Give it 4 or 5 games. We aren't going to throw as much as some teams and CeeDee will be the main guy by far and then we will spread it around after that, so don't expect huge numbers from Gallup but that might just mean he isn't getting targeted for the reason at the beginning of this run on sentence and not related to his ability

Maybe.....Gallup is more of a vertical guy but it's early. We'll see after a few more games

It's funny, personally when thinking of the WR position I usually don't give a ton of credence to scheme fit. Brian talked on another program yesterday about how precise the receiver routes had to be in this new offense. Perhaps this, coupled with his potential being minimized slightly through injury, just may make it tough for MG to be a consistent viable option.

I like the guy. I mean he can toe drag like no one's business but this may prove to just not be a place for him. I'd like a larger sample size though.

However it works out, I wish nothing but good things for MG.
