So I was looking at PFF at lunch time, just killing time. and couldn't help but notice that the Browns have 3 better players at the same positions in which the Boys are known to be great at. For example.
Alex Mack is rated the number one center, where Frederick is rated at 3.
Joel Bitonio is rated higher then Zack Martin by one spot.
And Joe Thomas is ranked #1 and Smith at number 4.
So is Ronald Leary and Doug Free that much better than the Browns other two starters?
Or does the fact that we have a great QB in Romo, in turn takes some of the pressure off the Line; come into play here? Wheres as Cleveland is lacking in that position.
Just curious what you guys think?
Does Dallas tie with the Browns or do you think pound for pound, the Browns have the better line?

I don't know if they are the best, but they are top 3 and very young
Thus they have more value as players since they will still be playing when many of those guys listed are setting on the porch in their rocking chairs

You kinda of answered your own question. The Browns can have the best oline in the NFL, but, they suck at QB.

Count me among those that does not believe the Cowboys has the best offensive line in football. Top 5, yes. Best running blocking team in football, maybe. But this Ol has struggled in passing situations, which is to be expected given the overall youth of the offensive line. They certainly have the opportunity to take the #1 this season, though. Especially with the no-names they now have in the backfield.

You have to ask?

This clearly shows the problem with PFFs metrics if they grade out well and still had their players look sub par behind them. But it's not an exact science so it like getting mad at power rankings.

Let's just assume everything you mentioned is accurate..which it probably isn't..but even if it is..

Dallas doesn't have to be THAT much better at LG and RT to be better than CLE...CLE is BARELY better than Dallas at those 3 positions...so it wouldn't take all that much for dallas to pass CLE

Browns have an older offensive line, and are probably a bit better at pass blocking than our line.

We have time on our hands though and skill position players who are worth something.

Cleveland was actually on the verge of becoming a good team for a second. Constant mistakes at drafting quarterbacks and running backs haven't helped them though.

I believe with the additional 2 pick ups & another 1/2 years... Our line will rate amongst the best ever.

Our pickups will improve our pass blocking

I think two things. First, PFF, pfft. Second, our pass blocking is generally a bit overrated. Still a very good OL, overall, but I think it's more the Cowboys' OL history, the fact that we went OL 3 times in the 1st round in 3 years, and our run blocking effectiveness that give us a bit of the hype we get on the OL.

It's hard to quantify who has the best unit. Debating if a line is ranked 1, 2 or 3 is just splitting hairs and semantics. And there's more to a line than just individual rankings. They have to work together quite a bit.

I think the Cowboys are the one of the top three OL's in the NFL. That is elite status and that's all we really need to know. Who's number 1 or who's number 3 can be debated forever.

Absolutely. Depends on your competition. NFCE defenses ain't scrubs.
