Do the Rams crash and burn for several years now?

The Rams wheeled and dealed to get players that can win the Super Bowl right away, and that worked. However, did that mortgage their future in a way that makes them crash and burn? Will they be hamstrung for a while?

They actually have a huge amount of cap space next year (2023), and can structure contracts to borrow from that to alleviate this year.

Plus Stafford needs a new contract soon, and while that means huge $$$, it also means for the first couple years at least they can make his cap hit lower than it is now at the end of his old deal.

They definitely have cap wiggle room, it’s the lack of draft picks that’ll hurt once some of these guys get a little too old

They probably don't crash and burn, but I doubt they will be superbowl contenders. The Rams will find a way to manage the cap and be aggressive in FA

I think it got tougher, they have several FA of their own and little money. Does Stafford now look for extension with 1 year left on his contract? If not do they move on from Stafford? Really will not know until we see how the Rams move forward in this off season

Well, yes and no. They have a projected $70 million in CAP space in 2023 but they have only 28 player under contract for 2023.

The Rams are just a little better off than the Cowboys in 2022 but with Whitworth retiring they get a $16 million CAP save so that helps them quite a bit. I don't really believe Aaron Donald will retire. Von Miller is their biggest free agent but he is 33 already so who knows how valuable he will bein 2022.

The biggest problem for the Rams I think is going to be offensive line. With Whitworth retiring and Austin Corbett a free agent, they could have a problem on the OL next year. But I could see them re-signing Corbett who won't be that expensive.

Who cares ? they got their SB win.
Ask yourself :
Would you be willing to be a doormat for 3 to 5 years if you got the Lombardi ?
I would !!!!!!!

That’s a great question.

But if you’ve just won a championship does anyone really care if you go south for a few years.

After almost 30 years would Cowboy fans give up 4 or 5 years of the future for another championship?

They hadn't made it to the Super Bowl this year or next, these moves would've been considered a fail.
But they got there and won, so they're thrilled with going all in.

The bigger impact from this will be 4-5 years from now when they have gone a few years without high draft picks.
But in the near term, I think they're fine.

Nobody repeats anyway, so that's probably not happening.

If Donald retires, that'll be a huge hit. But I doubt he does.

It would be worth it if it worked. Jerry did attempt to do something like it with the Joey Galloway trade. He incorrectly thought we were one good WR away from another Super Bowl, so he went out and got the best one he could trade for. But as we all well know, he grossly miscalculated, and it was a total flop.

In short, trading for great players to win now is great if it works. If it flops, it can really hurt a team.

I don't know if the Rams will crash and burn, but they'll have to do without their OC, Kevin O'Connell. FS1 just reported that the Vikings have named him their new HC.

Yep

But I’m not sure we’d feel the pain as much here. This ownership isn’t held accountable for lack of success and has been unflappable regardless the results.

I think there just too lazy to make the moves and content with our relevancy and interest we generate. Why do anything different.

Yea, if I’m Rams my biggest concern is losing McVea to retirement.

Was in the championship game three seasons ago; the Rams might have the formula + steadfastness in their FO and coaching staff to be in the conference title chase as the Chiefs are currently doing.

they don't have first round picks. they have aging veterans. they may compete for another year, but wheels will come off and they have to rebuild through fire sale. they were not built for long term run. but they did get a superbowl trophy....t
