Supply and demand.

There's a large demand for the most talented athletes to perform and a small supply of them....so they can demand more money.

I have no problem with it, personally.

If they can fetch that much money - they should, if they want too.

I wasn't looking for an economics lesson, I know why the money is there, ... I just don't agree with it.

NFL players should be compensated the most because they risk life, limb and the ability to walk each time they put on the pads.

But other sports stars getting millions seems a waste to me.(baseball, basketball, golf, tennis, etc.)

I think every type of 'entertainer' is vastly overpaid.

Unfortunately, that's just the way it is currently.

For the record, I don't like it either.

The amount of money these guys make finds me losing interest.

Many people go to bed hungry or sleep in a box in our country and these guys wipe their butts with $20 bills.

I understand your point but disagree with it. People often say we lawyers, doctors etc don't make what athletes do but what we do is far more important. I agree but my response is always that we don't have 70000 people paying up to 200 or more a ticket to watch me argue in court, or a doctor to do a heart transplant. People don't pay money large money to wear CCF lawyer fan gear either.

You've just reiterated my point, .. why do we have to pay $200 + for a ticket ?

To pay the athletes.

One of many things that are totally upside down in our society.

You pay $200 for a ticket because they are worth $200 a ticket.

I get your point, but you are wrong, ... I don't pay $200 for a ticket, because it isn't worth $200 a ticket.

Not when I can see it on TV anyways.

OK, maybe to you its not worth the $200 a ticket....and I know you understand this, but I'll say it anyway, you can only charge a ticket what people are willing to pay.

Obviously people are willing to pay $200 a ticket, which thus sets the market value.

I guess its a difference in economic principles between you and me. (Please mods, don't delete this, I am not being political in that statement....if anything, its economics).

I think you could charge double that, and somebody would buy the tickets.

I put no but I guess it comes down to the level of the integrity of the sport. I grew up a huge boxing fan but became completely tired of watching some of the ridicilous decisions and questioning whether or not the sport as a whole was rigged. I dont think there is any chance that the NFL, NBA or MLB will get to that level so I chose no. There are always going to be scandals etc. but its hard to believe any of those sports could ever become as tainted as boxing.

I voted yes because I have stopped watching all other sports except NFL football because I got tired of a bunch of negative things in the other sports and now I watch NFL purely to watch good players play superior ball and I generally don't care much who wins. I'm basically a Cowboys fan but I quit being a fanatic about it a long time ago. I'm glad for all those remaining fanatics; however, because they keep it on TV and I can watch it for free.

Thanks, guys. No, I really mean it, thanks.

It's an interesting question. For me, the answer is yes. I have stopped watching major sports, for the most part. I watch Baseball on occasion but not nearly as much as I used to. I've pretty much stopped watching the NBA because of how the game is called. I just think the NBA screws games by giving preferential treatment to Star players. NFL I watch but it's harder and harder every year. I just have a very difficult time identifying with it. This can be because I'm getting older but it can also be a value thing. I find myself enjoying HS and youth sports more and more. I still enjoy College ball but I can see myself getting away from Pro Sports all together. The Cowboys would easily be the hardest for me to put down but I can see that day coming at some point.

I'm in the minority, I know. Baseball has a league full of cheating and sales just keep rising. The NBA has been running a fixed league for decades and more and more keep tunning in. In football, TV revenue continues to set new records every year. Thug mentality permiates the league and it is obviously appealing to a large number of people. For me that answer is yes but for society, I suspect the answer is no.

Article in USA Today asked the question, do we care about integrity in sports? With Vick and his deal, with cheating officials in the NBA, with Bonds and Steroids in MLB, do we really care or do we just want to see the TDs, the dunks and the HRs? Are these things important enough to stop watching or do we just want to stop hearing about it and watch the game, real or not?

It's a meaningless question to me. I will say this...I have zero interest in "professional wrestling"..

Most sports are dirty. In the NHL, Buttman the commissioner has just nixed a sale of the Nashville Predators because he doesn't want a team moving from the old Confederacy to Canada even though the team would be financially solvent in Canada. Yet I will still watch come the fall.

Soccer is full of match fixing scandals yet I watched the World Cup, the U20 World Cup etc.

A bike rider who just won a stage in the Tour de France was just suspended for blood doping, yet I watched part of the race this morning on OLN.

Thus is the world made

You probably wouldn't say that if Torrie Wilson asked you out

Actually, professional wrestling is the most honest sport going....because everyone knows it's FAKE!

I'm a guy that would rather watch paint dry than watch that stuff...but, it's honest, they don't try and fool you into believing it's REAL wrestling.

She is mighty fine, indeed! But if she asked me out, I would have to turn her down. I sure as hell would not like to do anything to make her MAD!

(besides, if she did go out with me...she would not leave me alone! She would keep calling me all the time...begging, pleading, on her knees, asking me to out on another date)...

I voted Yes. I stopped watching the NBA about 3-4 years ago because of the officiating. I swore back then that officials were "paid" or "told" to call games a certain way.

Doesn't seem so far fetched now, does it?
