Do we have too many good players?

We have too many players that sign with the Cowboys that don’t seem to care as much about winning a championship as they do earning a big contract. At least that’s the impression you get watching the Cowboys against contending teams and in the playoffs. Can’t remember another season where we crapped the bed as bad as we did last season against contending teams. We completely STUNK against San Francisco, Buffalo and Green Bay.

None of us have ever been inside that locker room or training facility with these players, so how do we know definitively it's the "culture"?? Because ESPN said so?? This team won 12 games three years in a row.. Believe me, a lot of teams wish they could do that.
Well it’s 30 years and how many playoff wins? Line that up against the other teams in the league and you see the Cowboys are among the bottom feeders of the league. Overlay the fact that Dallas has fielded better than average QB play over most of the last 3 decades and you will see culture is an issue. Keep drinking the Jones Kool Ade though.

Look at what we've been gifted in upcoming contracts from players we've drafted. Upcoming deals for Dak, Micah, Lamb, Tyler Smith, Bland, Osa just to name a few. Can we realistically afford to keep all of these players. Before it's said YES it's years down the road for some players, but we just have to keep this in the back of our minds. Please give your thoughts
No we can't and GM Jethro sucks at making trades, so prepare yourself for more comp picks.

During the well-chronicled 30-year Super Bowl drought we are currently experiencing, only two teams [Steelers & Pats with 6] have won more Super Bowls than the Dallas Cowboys; We are tied with the 49ers for 2nd. most Lombardi Trophies with 5. You said that the Cowboys are "among the bottom feeders of the league" lol.. It's people like you that give real Cowboys fans a bad name!! I'll keep drinking the Kool Aide lol, but from the looks of it you need to quit drinking period!! :muttley:

who has the rungs? The teams with Brady, Mahomes and other generation type QBs... not the teams with imaginary generation GMs.
So just pack it in for the next 15 years because those guys only come around that often. If you simply tank every year for the next 15 years you have a 20% chance of drafting one of you a draft a QB every year.

Alternately you can do what all the other teams did, such as the Rams, and get a lot of talent around a top 20 QB and win that way.

Too many good players is exactly what you want. Being able to evaluate how to coach, develop and manage those players is more difficult than acquiring them.

This organization has a decent talent acquisition team led by Will McClay. The problem here are McClay’s superiors. They have proven they don’t know how to build and manage a championship roster in the cap era.

This is a similar question to my thoughts on signing CeeDee. If it better to have 5 or 6 top paid players that consume so much CAP space that the rest of the team is cheap cast offs and borderline NFL talent, or is it better to spread the talent around the team more evenly, with maybe a couple of top paid player?

Football is the ultimate team sport. When I look at the Cowboys DL, I wonder how the defense can be reliable given the lack of real talent on the DL Osa Odighizuwa is a good player but he is not great enough to make up for the rest of the DTs.

sure, you can try.... and about every 5 or 6 years a team with a non HOF qb will win one. But the rams were like every other team that does it that way.... here today gone tomorrow. It happens.

The single most important decision a team can make these days is who they decide to make their highest paid players. The highest paid players are by default the team leaders. They will set the tone and the standards for everyone. Forget the coaches. They make as much as the bench players. They are nothing more than facilitators. They are there to help the highest paid guys. They work for them.

The highest paid defensive player for years now have been D Flaw. Throw in some Diggs and some J Smooth and now some Parsons. If you think those guys are going to be the leadership group for a championship defense you are clinically insane.

The highest paid offensive players for years now have been Dak and Martin. Throw in some T Smith and Zeke and Dez. Now looking to add CeeDee. Outside of Zeke and Dez better options than the defense I would say but still not guys that demand performance from their peers.

I mean we might have the greatest players of all time if choking and dissapearing vs good teams is the measuring stick. 29 years and still going strong at mediocrity and false hope.

I believe the word HOMER was created for fans like you. Dallas hasn’t won a SB in 30 years. Longest conference championship drought…Cleveland, Washington, Miami and Dallas. Dallas is sitting with the absolute dog pile of franchises there. That is a fact. So stop living in the past and be better.

We have too many good players at the wrong positions, yes. Desperately need DT's and possibly a C, 2 of the most key positions in getting into super bowl contention.

IM not a violent person, but everytimeI see someone make a comment like this Id like to do what that Batman pic has Btman doing to Robin... smacking the heck out of him.....lol.

This is absolute BS. just like that "Great," patriot way we heard about for a decade or more. They were so smart, always letting the player walk before paying him big bucks. Now, its the Chiefs who are genius at doing this. uh... yea, sure thing. The only thing that makes them smart os their QBs. You can make dumb moves that still workout for you, because your QB overcomes it all. Letting T Hill walk was not smart, it was incrediubly stupid. But when you have Mahomes slinging it around, all is well in Chiefs land,

NO WAY IN HELL the Chiefs had a better top to bottom roster than the Cowboys had last year.... minus the QB.

SO ENOUGH OF THE CHIEFS FANDOM... PLEASE!
Yes they did. Chiefs have the right players in key positions. We have a CB and a pass rusher.

Chiefs are stacked, and have a way better roster than ours. Kelce, Creed, Chris Jones, Pacheco, NNadi, Bolton, McDuffie.

We have a better WR and a better pass rusher, exactly where else are we better than the Chiefs?

Its more often than that. You are just getting colored by Mahomes and Brady basically having a pair of dynasties this century. They won 10 of the last 25 Super Bowls. Tier 1 QBs have won 15 of the last 25 Super Bowls (and Manning was not even t1 when he won it). That means about 40% of the time the Super Bowl by someone either t2 or lower at QB. Now you can either say that is impossible and just give up for the next 15 years hoping to find Mahomes or Brady (you probably will not even if you draft a 1st round QB every year for 15 years) or you can try to win the same way everyone else does.

Cheifs did not need to score very many points. Mahomes could win games with 1 good quarter of good play with their defense.
