Boot him.

Jerry Jones is sitting in his office with a deck of cards that has the people getting the boot on them. He's holding Ellis' card. LOL.

if spencer would live up to his draft position the answer would be a resounding no. ellis is only around cause we can't trust spencer.

I couldn't sign a guy's paycheck if he going to whine about it, even after I redo his contract. He'd be out right after TO.

I would have waived him before Roy and TO. 5 million in cap savings? He'd have been gone so fast his whining about it would be drowned out by the screeching tires.

Very well said ---:lmao2:

Given that the team is making what seems to be a concerted effort to get rid of malcontents...and bring some new energy, they should boot Ellis through the nearest set of goal posts.

combine this post with Hos's screeching tires and it does make a pretty thought ------

Of course you could restruture his contract for the mininum -then boot him as the whining starts:laugh1:

yes, this will be his last year. Dallas will draft 2 pass rushing LB's to get them ready.

It is time to finally let him loose. Ellis has been a great warrior for the Cowboys, but he is clearly in decline

As much as I would love to cut his arse, I dont think we should until we know what the situation is going to be with Spencer.

Has anybody heard what his puinishment from the league was over the bar fight and arrest???

I imagine he would get at least a 1 games suspension, so we have to hold onto Ellis in the meantime.

Dont get me wrong though, if Spencer wasnt such a screwup and we had a legit alternative, Ellis would be out of here.

If we cut Ellis, right after TO and Roy i figure the team would be demoralized and the situation can get ugly. I still think its going to happen, but maybe let a little more time pass...

Ellis is done...I'd rather cut him now than next year when he's really done...

Yeah, top 10 rusher in the past 2 years - yeah, he's done.

Unless they bring in somebody who can rush the passer from the outside, either through FA or the draft, i think we need to hold on to Ellis.

Right now they only have Ware, Spencer, and Ellis that can rush well from the outside.(Yes Spencer still has to prove it but he's shown some ability) So they better find some replacements if they are going to cut Ellis. I'll be glad when they finally don't need him.

exactly.

ellis is a whiner and he's annoying but he isn't a detriment to the team.
he is getting old fast and needs to be replaced but we keep trying and failing to do so.

the cowboys can talk about spencer's play versus the run all they want(so long as they burn the tapes of those fateful balitmore runs) but when the guy across from you gets 20 sacks and you can't get 5 you suck. seriously, the nose tackle beats you out by a wide margin?? that's just poor pass rushing.

until ellis is replaced the only thing more annoying than his whining is fans whining about his whining.

its a vicious cycle:)

I doubt many like to listen to Ellis but its mild enough to blandly ignore and goes away before the season starts.

I think it foolish to get rid of the #2 or 3 pass rusher OLB on the team. I think you have to replace him first. And pray tell me where you're going to get near 10 sacks a year for the money he gets. We could get real lucky and find a gem in the draft or UDFAs but I wouldn't count on it.
the voice of reason. good post.

you dont cut someone before you even find a viable replacement.

i would love to save 5 mill on our cap but we dont have the depth at the postion and anyone we can truly trust to give us the same production.

Honestly, Ellis should've been gone a long time ago. This year belongs to Spencer and he can either step up or be replaced also.

Thank you. I thought most of board had gone crazy. To get that for 5M a year or less is astounding.

Thanks. I didn't read this before my last post. Getting a pretty good pass rush esp from a converted 4-3 DE to a 3-4 SOLB at his price is quite a bargain. I'd pay him again next year if he has another good year and just put up with the occasional whine. My children give me a hellava lot more grief than Ellis.
