Do we sign Adrian Peterson next season? (assuming Murray is gone)

I think it's possible if he gets counseling, which he will probably be req'd to do. He and Randle would make a NICE combo. Hey, I don't want to lose Murray but he's going to want too much money. IF he finishes this season healthy, it would be his first full season in the league. Just too rich considering we have Dez and others to sign. Thoughts?

no, but I would look at Mark Ingram for 3 years 10 million.

keep in mind he is 29, so we're entering that age range that carries a bit of a negative connotation in regards to declining performance

but i think if the contract terms make sense and Murray goes to another team, yes

I don't think AP becomes a Cowboy. But even at age 30, he is one of those freaks of nature. He will produce for at least two more years barring any catastrophic injury.

Which he has had during his career.

When he was 27. He will be 30 next season.

So what. Plenty of running backs have played well beyond that age. Especially physical freaks like Peterson. And he spent year 29 taking no wear and tear.

No question in my mind that he's some sort of factor.

He's either a bargaining chip in any negotiations with Murray, or Murray simply costs too much and the Cowboys sign Peterson on the cheap while he tries to rebuild his career.

If they don't resign Murray, the Cowboys will have several options next year - Peterson, Ingram, Lynch, Spiller, etc.

I like the way you think.

Murray will try to break the bank. I don't think he's worth it.

With this O-line. I like anyone half decent behind it.

And many more running backs have played poorly or average at best after turning 30. He won't be as cheap as you think he will be. There will be teams out there that will spend some money. He also won't be a guy capable of producing 1400 yards per season anymore.

Let's focus on this one point and then we can address others.

Who will cost more, Murray or Peterson?

Murray, but I don't think Dallas should leave themselves in a position to choose just between these two guys. There are several options out there available to the Cowboys.

I don't like the idea of siging 30 year old running backs. Murray may cost more money, but Peterson won't be cheap, either.

Leading the league in rushing yards before contact certainly makes the case that the offensive line is doing a great job. And yeah, ANY back would be able to run untouched.

That's not a slight on Murray, it's a testament to the offensive line.

I don't either. Lots of options. But glad you agree that Murray will cost more. And I would expect him to want the longer term deal as well.

But he'll be cheaper of the two. If they were equal, I'd take Murray, but they're not. If Murray proves unaffordable, I'd be OK with Peterson on a two year deal as a fall back option.

There was an article about 3 weeks ago that stated Murray was ranked 2nd in yards after first contact.
