I like how they do it in college.
The only thing I would change from the college way is I would have them start from the 50 yard line.

Every League in sports has it right but the nfl. We should do it like college...

I saw no threads like this when we won the toss and drove down the field for a FG against the Giants.

After that game if a Giant fan would have came here and shared this , I would have been in agreement with him/her....
Always liked the college answer to OT better.

Can someone explain to me why OT should be any different from regulation? What's wrong with just having the teams play a full 5th quarter? I hate it in sports when you play 60 minutes and suddenly you're playing a different game with different rules to figure out the winner.

I agree with it.

This game is equal between execution and luck. Both parts play a great role in football.

If anything, rule out FG's and make a team win by getting a TD only. The thing fans pay to see anyway. Increase that "execution" aspect of the game while still holding onto that luck aspect.

That wouldn't be a half bad thing to do. They could even drop them down to 5 minute OT Quarters. Maybe with a maximum of 3 (15minutes total) before they rule it a TIE if nobody scores.

This is one area where I think the college game is ahead of the pro game. The college overtime where the other team gets a shot to match is more fair.

I expected the vote to go against sudden death due to the T-Day game, but it should be an even larger vote.

The long term stats that have been kept on overtime prove that the team that wins the coin toss wins the clear majority of games...that in itself makes it an unfair system.

I too support the college game...I believe games would be ended just as early as in sudden death which sometimes requires quite a bit of time. Anyone who thinks we'd see endless games that end with scores in the 60's isn't paying attention to the redzone %'s in the NFL. Due to great defense and poor kicking, I think the games would probably end a little faster than the college games.

I hate the college crap...too much like a pinball game then with these teams scoring over and over and over

nobody would have posted this question had we won the toss and won the game again like we did vs NYG

they've showed the stats for this a million times over...the team winning the toss only has a very slight advantage in winning% of OT games

the college OT rule is ridiculous IMO...too many 24-24 games turn into 55-52 or something because of it

A advantage, however slight, is still an advantage in the end.

Well to each his own, this is an opinion thread afterall.

Imagine if we didn't get a chance to respond to other opinons in a thread? That the first person who submitted a post got the 'winning' opinion? I know, I know, not quite the same thing...but I haven't had my morning coffee yet.

.

so why dont we quit allowing teams to play games at home too, since they have a slight advantage in winning%...lets move every game to neutral sites

but if thats not feasible, we could make it more even from now on we can have the visiting team select one opposing key player inactive as well, further evening the odds

come on people

Maybe because the NFL wants to give home teams the advantage.
Hell, maybe they want to give someone in OT the advantage too, and that's ok cause I don't make the rules.
It's just an opinion in a poll thread, you don't have to agree with it, but it makes no sense to argue or be negative about it man.

Leave it alone. It's why they call it Sudden Death! If we would have won this would not be a topic. The college format is good; for college. Could you imagine a hard fought 10-10 game ending up 41-38 in OT? Great for the fantasy geeks, but it takes away from the tradition that makes the NFL unique.
