Sometimes I think that because the Cowboys are headliners, people don’t like trading with us because it’s always gonna get national attention and spun to sound like that team got fleeced. If I were an owner, I’d want my trades to be under the radar, and if I had to trade with the Boys, I’d make sure it looked like I fleeced them due to the national attention

That said, I’m always scratching my head at how the Jones’ are supposedly amazing business men, but don’t seem to understand player value outside of the draft board and penny stock Free Agents. They really seem to struggle with trades and higher profile FAs

There's a lot of reasons. Lots of things to consider when you talk about players who come here after they've established themselves, and that probably varies from player to player, organization to organization, etcetera.

Lately, we've been a team to draft our own guys from college, or to develop other teams rejects or undrafted free agents.

I like our style.

Ever since the Walker trade teams are afraid to trade with us. :muttley:No just kidding.

I don’t think there is a bias. Just trades don’t work out as we always hear later on…the price was to much to get a player. Or not enough to trade a player away. And Better off to have for depth or the future or whatever.

I think for the most part they simply do not come to an agreement.
I would bet this happens a lot to other teams as well.

There’s no trade bias against the Cowboys. Lol On draft day their phone is always ringing with teams looking to make deals with them. Jerry has had a reputation over the years as a wheeler and dealer. He doesn’t make trades like he used to because of the salary cap and he values his draft picks.

I don't think it's anything more than media drama.

Why would teams not want to trade with Dallas?? Jerry gets fleeced in every trade.

I think the only trade bias is that Jerry is the worst poker player in history and broadcasts every intention and thought that meanders into his small brain thereby signaling to everyone else how to take advantage.

they don’t need them.

No

Dallas is a pretty good drafting team and likes to hold on to their picks

I guess we traded for Cooper a few years ago....then traded him away this year after a few years of use. We did let him go for too cheap, but that was on us.

There really aren't a ton of trades given that there are 32 teams and 22 starters on each.

No.

It might seem like there are a lot of trades in the modern era (past decade) but that's due to twitter, etc. alerting fans to trades.

In reality significant trades are very limited now as compared to the early nineties. The cap rules and free agency have evolved to make trades more difficult and less appealing.

Draft picks are cap management tools.
- Teams must get significant contributions from a large number of players on their 1st (cheap) contract.

If they draft picks for veterans or players that will be free agents after the season, then it becomes very difficult to manage the cap.

Fans hear about teams acquiring players because it makes headlines; however, it does not make headlines when teams have to cut or no re-sign core players due to the cap.

Occasionally it works to leverage the future. Rams 2021 and Eagles in 2017; however far more often it has failed and resulted in cap problems for multiple years afterwards (Washington, etc).

simpler answer:

we have a moron for a GM who works part time

Teams are in the 'business' of making money and winning. Most, if not all of them are more concerned with that than they are at looking like they got the crap end of the stick.

I think teams would LOVE to trade with the Cowboys seeing that Beavis and Butthead are usually taken to the back of the woodshed repeatedly. Just that our FO has gotten cheaper as their franchise value has risen. And so cheap labor like draft picks, discarded FA, injured FA, and our own are the most likely choices made. Hey, the 30 year plan is on schedule, I think.

Come to think of it, who would have thought you would pay off your 30 year mortgage and the Cowboys still not make it back to even a NFCCG. ? How bizarre.

You don’t trade for people you don’t need. You don’t spend money on prima donna free agents, let someone else through the salary cap up
