Now that I think of it, Weekend at Bernie's is a terribly unrealistic and has a lot of poor acting, but I love watching it.
This movie cracks me up. Stapling his toupe' back on always has me laughing.
Okay, I'm going to shock my fellow John Wayne fans and pick one of his.
Rio Lobo.
Howard Hawks struck gold with the storyline of
Rio Bravo and made a great movie. Seven years later he tweaked the story a little and pulled it off again as
El Dorado. Still a great movie. 5 years later he tried it a third time with
Rio Lobo and it just doesn't work.
I love the movie. It was filmed here in Tucson (all of them were) and I know a guy who had a bit part in it. The dialog is terrible. I mean downright ignorant at times.
Why do I like it? Well, it's a John Wayne western and it has pretty girls. Beyond that, it just isn't a good movie. But when it comes on I have to watch it.
True story, my wife is not a John Wayne fan at all. One time she decided to join me and watch this movie. Her frequent comment was "oh brother." She nailed it.
For instance, Pierre Cardona crashes in on a partially dressed Mexican girl, who not only is not screaming and freaked out, she finishes dressing reluctantly, and she invites him to stay and eat some beans and tortillas. The whole scene is downright roll your eyes to heaven stupid, but I love it.
