Do You Kick or Receive?

When your playing an explosive offense like the Saints on the road, do you want to kick or receive?

You kick it, your risking the Saints scoring right away and getting that crowd fired up. You get the ball to start the second half though.

You recieve it, your risking a 3 and out with the Saints getting the ball at the start of the 3rd.

Pro's and cons for both sides really.

What would you do?

Considering we havent scored a TD on our first drive all year, and we dont have a kicker that can make a field goal....i say kick it.

Against an explosive team like the Saints I want the ball first and hope we can take it down the field and score. Getting off to a fast start with 7 points is the Cowboys only chance. The Saints get the opening KO they'll take it right down the field and put the Cowboys in a hole right off the bat. We get behind to this team early in the dome and it's OVER!

kick if the saints score... you see how your offense responds.

if they don't moral victory for the defense and you get the ball in the second half.

if you take the ball first and dont score.. its like OH NO here we go.

Kick the ball.

That way, if we are trailing at halftime we have a chance to get back into the game right away in the second half. If we are trailing at halftime and the Saints get the ball and score again to start the second half, you are now down 2 scores before you even get the ball.

I like having the ball to start the 2nd half. Given the way this offense performs on the opening possession ( 0tds this year) I'd definitely defer if we win the toss.

How freaking pathetic is that.......we have not scored 1 TD on an openning possession of a game this year.

And some people on here want to make Tecmo our next HC.

On the road you receive. You force a three and out, then go on a 10 play TD drive. The crowd is KO'd.

What if you recieve, go 3 and out, other team takes over at midfield and crowd is pumped???

The Saints have had the most success when receiving the ball first. The Saints won the flip the first six games and received, scoring on each of the drives. Also, Greg Williams has been making such good halftime adjustments that the second half first possession by the opponent has usually been for naught.

So, I a long about way, I would say it would be to Dallas' favor to take the ball if winning the flip.

The problem with that is that our genius OC has been unable to score a single TD on an openning drive this entire freaking season. Also, our FG kicker has turned into Shankapotamus and cant hit a FG if the ball is outside the 20 yard line.

Thus, Dallas receiving would be monumentally stupid because we cant score a TD on an openning drive and we cant kick FGs either now.

Guess I'm old-fashioned (or something). I like getting the ball first. For the Cowboys, and for myself when I play Madden. :)

Big whoop, wanna fight about it?

Fight? ... I don't think so.

If that was the best response you got, you would've been better off just ignoring my post.

So now I am to believe that you meant to say, "receive and go 3 and out" ?

Interesting, .. I can't agree, but interesting none the less.

I see you don't watch Family Guy.

That show can make me laugh out loud, or sit there wondering why I am watching it.

My son loves it and I watch with him a lot. (until he moved to PA)

Same here, nothing is off limits

...and more importantly your QB.

Issues you want to consider:

1. Am I looking to boost the morale of one unit or the team right off the bat? What is the best way to do that?

2. Does my QB have "it" today? Are the rest of the cast of characters ready to go also?

3. Whose my strongest unit right now at kickoff time?

Usually chasing this train of thought on these answers will give you a choice.

I tend to look at it more optimistically. I like knowing that I'm going to get the ball to start the second half, so I can manage the end of the first half with that in mind. If I can basically run out the clock on the first half (hopefully scoring on that possession) AND get the ball to start the second half, that is a huge stretch of the game in which my offense is on the field and could put up consecutive points. If I'm already ahead before that last possession of the first half, that's even better. I could go from a three-point lead to a 13-point lead without the other team even getting the ball.

On the other hand, if I have to kick off after halftime and it's a close game, I'd better make my last possession of the first half count. And I'd better make a stop on defense if my opponent has the last possession of the half.
